Anonymous Coward (OP) User ID: 34995162 Egypt 04/12/2013 10:19 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | South Korea 'doubts' North has nuclear-armed missile despite US intel. report South Korea's Defence Ministry said on Friday it doubted North Korea had the ability to launch a nuclear-armed ballistic missile as claimed in a report by the U.S. military spy agency. "North Korea has conducted three nuclear tests, but it is still doubtful that North Korea has made a small, light warhead that can be mounted on a missile," ministry spokesman Kim Min-Seok told reporters. He was reacting to the findings of the U.S. Defense Intelligence Agency (DIA) that stated Pyongyang could be capable of launching a nuclear warhead, albeit an unpredictable one. Whether propaganda or exaggerated, but I clearly remember about a year ago large protests against the US military for several reasons. So, USA is saying "they will defend/protect their ally South Korea" - yet, once again, its a country with citizens not so friendly towards the US. Further they seem to shrug off the NK threats of nuclear attack. I guess not everyone in that government is playing the game of the west? A lot of citizens certainly don't. Example from the past - if you google, you'll find more in regards to the anti-US sentiment in South Korea, who they actually blame for the conflict with the North to begin with: SOUTH KOREA: Protests Show Rising Hostility toward U.S. Policies [link to www.ipsnewsasia.net] |

But not surprising. And representative of a great many imo. In the article it is suggested Kerry should go to North Korea to conduct his talks. Indeed. Why isn't he? Because it's not agreement or mutually beneficial solution that's being sought. Once again it's 'This is what we demand of you- your opinion/ view is irrelevant. And we will get what we want- one way or another.' |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 29998379 Canada 04/13/2013 10:36 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | The visit by US Secretary of State John Kerry to South Korea has sparked protests, with the demonstrators saying they are furious at Washington’s policies on the Korean Peninsula. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 34995162 John Kerry arrived in South Korea on Friday for talks with South Korean Foreign Minister Yun Byung-se to give fulsome US backing to military ally South Korea amid rising tensions with its northern neighbor. The demonstrators gathered in front of the Foreign Ministry building in Seoul to protest against the ongoing military exercises between South Korea and the US, demanding Kerry to go to North Korea for peace talks. The anti-war activists also called for an end to sanctions against North Korea. The protesters blamed the United States for stoking tensions between the two Koreas and accused the US military of making huge profits out of the tensions in the region. [link to www.presstv.ir] Maybe the west should consider leaving the Korean peninsula's problems to the Koreans (and DKPR Chinese minders). SK demononstrator's who are not leftist apparatchik might first ask the Tibetans about their Overlords practices while minding the store. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 37971414 Egypt 04/13/2013 10:40 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | US plays down N Korea threat On the brink of an expected North Korean missile test, US officials focused on the limits of Pyongyang's nuclear firepower Friday, trying to shift attention from the disclosure that the North Koreans might be able to launch a nuclear strike. They insisted that while the unpredictable government might have rudimentary nuclear capabilities, it has not proved it has a weapon that could reach the United States. A senior defense official said the US sees a "strong likelihood" that North Korea will launch a test missile in coming days in defiance of international calls for restraint. The effort is expected to test the North's ballistic missile technologies, not a nuclear weapon, said the official, who was granted anonymity to discuss intelligence matters. Unless the missile unexpectedly heads for a US or allied target, the Pentagon does not plan to try to shoot it down, several officials said. As a precaution, the US has arrayed in the Pacific a number of missile defense Navy ships, tracking radars and other elements of its worldwide network for shooting down hostile missiles.
