We all have a Ferrari, a nice villa and we have zillions of Euro in our bank accounts. Poor Germans work twice as we do, they have an old Prinz or a Trabant and they live in crappy apartments in neighbourhoods full of Turks and of course Italian immigrants. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 13314174 Sweden 04/25/2013 06:39 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | A recent ECB household-wealth survey was interpreted by the media as evidence that poor Germans shouldn’t have to pay for southern Europe. This column takes a look at the numbers. Whilst it’s true that median German households are poor compared to their southern European counterparts, Germany itself is wealthy. Importantly, this wealth is very unequally distributed, but the issue of unequal distribution doesn’t feature much in the press. The debate in Germany creates an inaccurate perception among less wealthy Germans that transfers are unfair Quoting: Ancient I've checked that survey out. The survey was done before the housing bust, which does explain a fair bit of the 'riches' away, aswell as some other minor flaws that compares apples to oranges. But in the end, yes, the average german is poorer than the average southern european. As always, people draw the wrong conclusions, and do TPTB's bidding by attacking the wrong target. Average germans are decent people, just as the average italian, spaniard or greek. It's generally not their fault things have gotten out of hand, still the average german blame the average greek/italian/spaniard, while they do the same to the average german. As always, the banksters and the people at the top, Merkel, Dieselbloom, van Rumpoy and their associates are to blame, but they rather pit the sheeple against eachother and have a war at comfortable distance from themselves... And the sheeple fall for it. |

And what's "average" in your opinion? How can you say the average german is poorer than an average spanish or greek or southern italian? (Let's say in northern italy things are still relatively quite better than in southern italy). There are more than 6 milions of people unemployed in Spain, SIX fucking milions. Yes, that's one of the flaws with the survey, add to that is was conducted before the housing bust. Also, relative some other countries, germany has a fairly efficient and honest government, no bribes needed for healthcare and such. Also, most ppl actually pay their taxes. As a country, germany is wealthy, on an individual level, most are just getting by. Fewer germans have a larger proportion of the wealth than in italy. Tax codes in general are interesting aswell, property taxes in southern europe are often avoided by never finishing the house, which makes the front of the house look like a damn ghetto, but once you get inside... |

As societies they are guilty of gluttony, even though on an individual level, many are innocent victims. I'm not attacking you, I'm just saying you have no idea on what's going on in southern europe, you hide yourself behind a survey, which is outdated and unreliable. Updated economic data say Spain, Greek, Portugal, soon Cyprus and soon Italy are on the verge of social and economic disaster and soon SHTF also for the core of the EU. Our share of responsibility exits, you are right, because we are unable to rise up and kick this political class of puppets out of here. Still, the real shit has begun to hit the fan when this austerity and bailout madness has begun, because before - even if in Italy growth was quite weak - there wasn't such crisis; people still had some money to spend, there were real jobs to apply for and average people could afford to pay rent and mortgage without spare money for food and other basic needs. You are lucky to live (if you really are) in Sweden, a country which still has some kind of economic and monetary indipendence. People living under Euro madness have lost this indipendence and, at least here, nobody has asked people if agreed or not to join Euro. So, believe your survey, if you want to. But don't assume it is reality as of April the 25th 2013. |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 38841290 Germany 04/25/2013 07:19 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Difficult to say. I haven't been to Greece, Italy or Spain in quite a while because I'm poor (which sounds seeing this thread, but that's how it is). I really can't say. I CAN say, though, that the average German certainly isn't rich in any sense of the word. |

Biggest Problem is that every 4'th Child do not get enough Food! Same thing in sweden btw, it's estimated around 40% is dependent on the government handouts (i.e. food-stamps, or government childsupport) to make ends meet. Even among those that owns their own housing. And food-banks, which until the last few years were almost non-existant, have started to appear in most bigger cities now. |

Do you really think germans are the only people working for food/energy/rent? The few people with a good income and a long-term job that could be able to buy an home can no longer buy a house, since banks aren't lending anymore money to people. Yeah, right they have to buy BTPs and other european bonds since it's safer as long as ECB give money to banks. There are more and more evictions since ordinary people can't no longer afford to pay their rent and mortgage and these homes come back to banks. Are these people rich? I am sure there are plenty of Spanish and Greeks that can give you an answer based on their everyday reality, which is way worse than Italian one So you said Germans don't own houses, yeah take a look at this link. it's first one I've found but there are others even more reliable for sure. [link to www.telegraph.co.uk] In 2010 53,2% of Germans owned an house. A lower percentage than Italian one, but don't try to fool people saying Germans don't own houses.. |

The 2008 events more or less went unnoticed for those not in the stockmarket (ie, the majority). But just wait and see, the last 5 years have been a steady grind downwards for many swedes, current administration have applied thumbscrews to many things. Those poor (and there are many), cannot even afford tax-funded services anymore, since fees and levies on everything, including a visit to the doctor, has been hiked to "prevent overuse". We haven't had our housing bust yet, but we'll get there. And being a country extremely dependent on trade, we'll grind to a halt in a heartbeat once TSHTF. With that said, Sweden is fast running out of time. We're soon joining you guys in hell. |
