Hemp is particularly effective at this due to the depth and mass of it's root systems combined with relatively rapid growth and large nutrient intake. Of course the problem still exists of what to do with the now radioactive hemp waste. This method is more suitable for site cleanup after the leakage has been stopped. Just an FYI, this method can also be used to recover gold and other metals. |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 34255868 You bundle it up in some weighted (big) bales, encase it in plastic wrap and drop it in the ocean into that very deep trench just off the coast of Japan. Hemp was the solution for cleaning toxic metals (like mercury and arsenic) from the tailings from the Yukon gold rush but nobody would accept the clean-up costs so nothing was followed through even though the science supported the concept. |
