"It's in the blood"
This is a bit of a canvassing post to get some opinions.
So some months ago i remember going through a period where it seemed people just didn't change, inpsite of how much good people they had in their lives to influence them. Then i watched a show called "home and away" and one of the characters said something like "people cant change, its in their blood". Talk about timing. I have some theological reasons for believing that there is some truth to this but i wanted to see what people thought, "do people ever really change"?

hmm

Yes.

They 'grow'.

Like a tree.

Can't 'become' a rose, but, it can grow into a larger, healthier tree.

Some people are more malleable then others, I guess it depends on different factors. Being open an honest to a person you want to help is good, but you can always try to help in subtle ways that will circumvent the conscious mind. Keep in mind the plasticity of the person you're trying to "help".

Something I have recently realized - due to dealings with dysfunctional family - is that genetics is very powerful, and when someone has dominant and negative character traits from certain family members, they are who they are and what they are - and there is nothing you can do to change them.

Two quotes from Robert Hunter, Lyricist for the Grateful Dead

"Crippled but free, I was blind all the time I was learning to see."

"Once in a while you get shown the light, in the strangest of places if you look at it right."

I come from horrific circumstances. Both of my parents were bonafied monsters.

I grew up in a fairly stable environment (away from them) in spite of this. I have turned into a decent human being. Blood can be overcome.

Re: "It's in the blood"
that´s a really good question, I´ve asked this myself.
When I look at some people, I cannot imagine them being otherwise. Now I think some steps in this process of growth take many lifetimes. But on the other hand I see most people got so much to burn inside and purify.. man, I wouldn´t want to be them. Maybe we´ll know soon.
There will come a time when you believe everything ends.
This will be the beginning

wow I started to believe this couple years ago. Even in japan they believe this.

What convinced me:

4 blood types
4 different temperments most psychologist agree on ancient and modern
Even 4 different zodiacs
And these all have subtypes.
Think about chemicals in our blood that affect how we act alchohol, weed, etc. all in our blood stream, shouldn't different blood types act different? anyway this imo , I go by my gut/hunches. great thread OP.

I do think people can change somewhat but your strength/gift cannot.
