Welsh Measles Epidemic Was Faked
The news media have been chock-full of the “measles epidemic” in Wales, along with the young man whom it was claimed had died of it. He didn’t—and the epidemic never happened. The proof is in Wales’ own official statistics.

The young man who died during the proclaimed measles epidemic, Gareth Colfer-Williams, did not die from measles. But even those few reports that admitted he didn’t die of the disease went on to a discourse of how terrible measles is and how the “epidemic” was so horrible. In the BBC article linked, we’re informed that “83 people have needed hospital treatment for the illness.” That, though, cannot be true.

The fact is that, though 446 measles notifications were made between 1 January and 31 March of this year, those were merely reports. The reality is that only 26 cases were actually confirmed!

In a new move that will perhaps be considered fubar, they are giving vaccines to the homeless and prisoners. Why well because children and teens are always hanging about with the homeless and people in prisons.

Homeless people in Swansea targeted with MMR jab to combat measles

HOMELESS people across Swansea have been targeted with the MMR jab as part of the drive to curb the measles epidemic.

Dr Sara Hayes, director of public health at Abertawe Bro Morgannwg University Health Board, revealed the group had been given the vaccine, along with prisoners in both Swansea and Parc Prison and Youth Offenders Institution in Bridgend.

Steps were also being made to ensure asylum seekers were also immunised

He doesn't need any help to be discredited.
He does that more than well enough himself.
As you do.

And I think the OP needs to look at the data properly and stop twisting it like that bastion of knowledge, gaia "health".

449 notified cases of measles (a notification is a confirmed diagnosis in case you didn't know, not just a report) in the first three months of this year compared to 384 in the WHOLE of last year. The cast majority confirmed around the Swansea area.
That's a bit of a jump isn't it?
I'm not sure if you know this but only people who are hospitalised by measles will actually have the virus confirmed by laboratory tests and that's only if the measles is causing other problems.

And I don't know how you can be so certain that measles didn't kill that guy as the results of all the tests haven't come back yet hence why they're opening an inquest. The first tests were inconclusive.

Wrong! A notification is not a confirmation at all it is just a notification of symptoms that meets the measles clinical definition.

"Following the Measles-Rubella (MR) school campaign in November 1994 the Health Protection Agency has offered oral fluid testing to confirm the diagnosis on all notified cases of measles, mumps and rubella."

And from looking about on their charts one can see the decline of measles long before the vaccine in 1968.

New research seems to back up Wakefield

Gastrointestinal symptoms are common in children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and are often Associated with mucosal inflammatory infiltrates of the small and large intestine. Although distinct histologic and immunohistochemical properties of this inflammatory infiltrate have been previously described in this ASD GI group, molecular characterization of these lesions has not been Reported. In this study we utilizers transcriptome profiling of gastrointestinal mucosal biopsy tissue from ASD GI children and three non-ASD control groups (Crohn's disease, ulcerative colitis, and histologically normal) in an effort two determining if there is a gene expression profile unique to the ASD GI group. Comparison of differentially expressed tran scripts between the groups Demonstrated that non-pathologic (normal) tissue almost completely segregated from inflamed tissue in all cases. Gene expression profiles in intestinal biopsy tissue from Patients with Crohn's disease, ulcerative colitis, and ASD GI, while having significant overlap with each other, also Showed distinctive features of each group. Taken together, these results Demonstrate that ASD children have a GI gastrointestinal mucosal molecular profile that overlaps significantly with known inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), yet has distinctive features that further supports the presence of an ASD-Associated IBD variant, or, alternatively, a prodromal phase of typical inflammatory bowel disease. Although we report qPCR confirmation of representative differentially expressed tran scripts Initially determined by microarray, these Findings may be considered preliminary to the extent that they require further confirmation in a validation cohort.

Again, looking at those charts, where is the measles clustered, around the Swansea area.

What I fail to understand is why people are backing Wakefield?

He tested children with learning difficulties without anyone's permission. He even performed fucking colonoscopies on them without parental consent!!

That "new evidence" you post, erm I think if you read it it just sort of confirms what's already known about autism. That IBD is linked with some forms of autism. Unlike Quackter Wakefield, the author is intelligent enough to keep the paper concerned with the results and findings and not make assumptive (and in Wakefield's case, highly lucrative!) conclusions.

(Although I am a little wary of Stephen Walker...he presented a poster in Montreal out of Wake College in 2006 suggesting a measles link then after the results were criticised published this statement... [link to www.wakehealth.edu]
Coincidentally, this poster and subsequent studies have been funded by the NAA who are well-known anti-vax promoters. Coincidence? I don't think so.).

One thing these studies always fail to include is testing on autistic children who have never been vaccinated.
I wonder why?

What I fail to understand is why people just can’t get their heads around this one and especially why wakefield had to be taken down and destroyed!

You talk of him been given millions by anti vaccine lawyers and you seem bothered by that and yet not bothered that pharmaceutical companies do this all the time and I do mean all the time. They throw millions at researchers and scientists alike to get them to come to conclude great things about their vaccines and medications and like so many times now, independent research proves drugs were always unsafe. And more than I wish to even say those same scientists and doctors and co who’s names once endorsed such well they are still out there today publishing studies with not even a slap on the wrist about it.

And here is some interesting reading concerning the whole wakefield saga. It might look a lot but it is well under 50% posting rule!

[link to childhealthsafety.wordpress.com]

Legal Aid funded claims by children started as early as 1991 and well before Dr Andrew Wakefield warned the British public about the vaccine. His efforts were met with the full force of the British establishment to discredit him and proceedings before the General Medical Council resumed only yesterday, which have been going on for three years.

The main false accusation levelled in February 2004 was that Wakefield made his disclosures in a medical paper published in The Lancet medical journal because he wanted to make money being an expert witness in Court. But few people know the following [and there is naturally full documentation on this].

Crispin Davis, the Chief Executive of Reed-Elsevier, the owners of “The Lancet”, had a few months earlier in the July [2003] been brought onto the Board of Directors of MMR litigation Defendants’ parent company GlaxoSmithKline.

[Global publishing giant Reed-Elsevier owns 2,460 scientific journals, including the magazine New Scientist and earns substantial funds from the drug industry in advertising revenue. Corruption in medical publishing is rife. Elsevier was paid by drug giant Merck to publish a fake medical journal with articles favourable to Merck’s drugs: [Merck published fake journal - Bob Grant - The Scientist - 30th April 2009]. Drug maker Wyeth flooded medical journals with some 40 ghostwritten articles penned by prominent physicians who sold their name for cash, in an all-out effort to offset the scientific evidence linking its female hormone replacement drug, Prempro, to breast cancer: [Judge orders Wyeth papers unsealed– Associated Press – July 25, 2009]. Reed-Elsevier’s former chairman, Jan Hommen, attended the secretive annual Bilderberg conference in 2007 and 2010. Bilderberg was described to senior British politician Lord Ashdown as ‘fifty people who run the world and twenty hangers on’: The Ashdown Diaries – Volume One 1988-1997; Penguin – 2000 – ISBN 0 14 029775 8 – pp.42-44] [Blue text added 29 May 2011]].

Brian Deer, a freelance journalist was commissioned by The Sunday Times two months later in September 2003 to write the stories attacking Wakefield.

This was about two weeks before the Legal Services Commission final decision was due on withdrawal of Legal Aid from the MMR children’s UK litigation and which did withdraw legal aid.

The person who commissioned Deer was Paul Nuki, Sunday Times’ sometime Head of Newsroom investigations and “Focus” editor. Paul Nuki is son of Professor George Nuki. Professor George Nuki in 1987 sat on the Committee on Safety of Medicines when the CSM was considering Glaxo company Smith Kline & French Laboratories’ Pluserix MMR vaccine for safety approval. The CSM approved Pluserix MMR but it caused very high levels of adverse reactions and was withdrawn by the manufacturers on very little notice in late 1992 leaving the Department of Health in an embarrassing position.

Large numbers of British children were injured and legal aid claims had already started from as early as 1991, five years before Wakefield became involved and contrary to The Sunday Times’claims that this was all a scam set up by Wakefield and solicitor Richard Barr.

Sitting on the CSM with Professor George Nuki was Professor Sir Roy Meadow and Professor Sir David Hull. Professor Sir Roy Meadow is now notorious for his evidence falsely condemning mothers around the world for killing their children. This includes the Sally Clark case where vaccines are directly implicated in the cause of death, as revealed by Neville Hodgkinson in The Spectator, (What killed Sally Clark’s child? | The Spectator 16 May 2007 ) but which were specifically discounted by Professor Meadow in his evidence, despite sitting on the joint CSM/JCVI vaccine safety sub-committee with the UK Department of Health’s Head of Immunisation Professor David Salisbury and others to approve the MMR vaccine.

It was Professor Sir David Hull in 1998 who, as chairman of the Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunisation, started the attacks on Wakefield’s work. The Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunisation advises the Department of Health on vaccination issues and the childhood vaccination programme. As Chairman of the JCVI, Professor Sir David Hull could have taken action to deal with the issues over the MMR and protect British children. Despite his attacks on Wakefield’s work, alleging unethical research on children for no clinical benefit, two years later in 2000, it was Professor Sir David Hull who rewrote the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health ethical guidelines to permit research on children where there was no clinical benefit (albeit in The Royal Free’s case all the investigations were clinically justified).

However on your first point that it's "law" to provide a sample for testing.

Absolutely nowhere in that link does it say that it is mandatory. It says that it's recommended for suspected cases.
That's it.
And there's a very good reason for that as it states further down the article if you care to read all of it.

As for Wakefield he took the typical quack stance of "the establishment is out to get me" instead of backing his claims up with proper evidence.
That tells me an awful lot.

Why are you trying to defend him by saying "big pharma do it all the time"? Do 2 wrongs make a right in the world of woo?
If they get found out they get censured.
If doctors fake their results they will be found out and censured.

Wakefield got found out and got censured. End of.
Now he's buggered off to that bastion of woo, Texas where he's plying his woo to every anti-vaxer who'll pay his fees.
Jesus, he's even trying to start a reality TV show!

I said "I think its a law they have to inform people of a measles diagnosis" nothing about a sample as I was talking about if a diagnosis is given of measles then other people are informed of such.

The medical establishment was out to shut him up! Just like they do to anyone who threatens their cash lines.

As for me pointing out that big pharma gives out kickbacks and bribes all the time well you still seem to be missing the point on that one. It's how quack drugs, yes quack drugs get on the market to start with never mind the thousands of deaths as a result in some cases.

Wakefield did not get censored, he was destroyed! And please who are we kidding here, the game is so one sided its not even funny. You say if people got found out they faked research and blah then they would have the same done to them... hmmmm I guess you mean like the people who tagged their names to the likes of Vioxx saying it was safe. Re: Welsh Measles Epidemic Was Faked
The article shows that the high numbers of measles cases in Swansea being reported in the UK mainstream media are the 'notified' cases, i.e. those reported by healthcare professionals. In March 2013, for example, 238 measles cases were notified in the Swansea area, while the figure for 1st January to 31st March was 343. By contrast, the number of laboratory-confirmed - i.e. actual - measles cases in Swansea in March 2013 was 3. Yes, three. The overall 2013 tally was 13. Doing a quick bit of maths, that's an overdiagnosis rate of 7930% for March and 2638% for 2013.

Of course, the reason given for the outbreak is that insufficient people have been vaccinated for measles, which in the UK in 2013 is exclusively available as the measles, mumps and rubella (MMR) triple vaccine on the National Health Service (NHS). Official NHS figures show that MMR takeup rates in the affected areas were below the 95% figure touted as necessary to achieve ‘herd immunity’ against measles, both at 2 years and 5 years of age.

Case closed? Well no, not really. There are a couple of problems with this assertion, one of which – and it’s a biggie – is that ‘herd immunity’ is an unproven theory with its basis in natural immunity, not vaccination. Not only that, but there is a certain inconsistency in the NHS’ presentation of its own data. The Swansea figures show that around 87% of children received two doses of the MMR vaccine by age 5 in 2011–12, a number that has been increasing steadily over the past few years. A map of the same data (Figure 1) confirms this, with Swansea in the ’85.0 to 87.4%’ bracket. This puts Swansea well within the 83–94% vaccine coverage range thought necessary for ‘herd immunity’ against measles by the World Health Organization (WHO) and US Centers for Disease Control (CDC).

Re: Welsh Measles Epidemic Was Faked

Re: Welsh Measles Epidemic Was Faked
The figures released today for the lab confirmed cases of measles for the whole of Wales from January up to the beginning of May 2013 are 279.

Those for Swansea are 151.

On the Public Health Wales website it was reported that the confirmed cases were 350 out of 850 tested.
Which doesn't tally at all with the numbers above.

Why?

Why were the confirmed cases overstated?

Incompetence?

I have no problem with notified cases being published of course they absolutely should be. But they are being presumed by the general public to be confirmed.
This is causing confusion.
Both figures should be given.

Otherwise the authorities leave themselves open to being accused of manufacturing a scare by emphasising the notified cases (which they themselves have said may or may not turn out to be measles) and not giving the correct figures for the lab confirmed ones.

And if as Maria Lyons said only 350 out of 850 tested positive then that is 500 cases which tested negative for measles but which were notified. Are these 500 included in the 1000+ notified cases?

This is a vital issue. But the authorities seem quite cavalier about accuracy.

Transparancy of COI do not take away the fact it is a COI.

The industry is ripe with bad science for such things.

Researchers from the United States and Canada looked at 546 drug trials registered in ClinicalTrials.gov, a registry of both federal and private trials in the United States and abroad. 346 of them, or 63 percen, were funded by the drug industry. The remaining 200 were paid for by government or non-profit organizations. Study authors found that more than 85 percent of industry-funded trials in their sample posted favorable outcomes and were 4 times more likely to report findings that favored their drug.

"We did this study in order to determine whether there is an inherent bias because pharmaceutical companies fund trials on products in which they have a financial interest," said study co-author Dr. Kenneth Mandl of Children's Hospital, Boston. "The most reassuring result would have been that the rate of favorable outcomes would be the same regardless of funding sources. In a very dramatic way that was not the case and what we need to ascertain is if the cause of this shift toward favorable findings among trials funded by pharmaceutical companies is related to the details of the protocols and study design."

Why do you people always try to deflect the issue?
I'm not talking about Offit. I'm talking about Wakefield, the fraud.
If you're so against Offit then by rights you should be against Wakefield.
But you're not and that I find really difficult to understand.

I'll write it s l o w l y this time to help you.

Wakefield tried to patent a single vaccine BEFORE he undertook his faked study.
A study which he rigged so when the triple-vaccine was muddied he would make his fortune. Just as a back up, he touted himself to anti-vax lawyers with the promise that they were going to win with their proposed lawsuits against the MMR vaccine.
Thankfully the fraudulent twat did not succeed so he fled to Texas. Hopefully he'll stay over there.

And Mopar, you really must be an idiot of you cite anything that Andrew Moulden says.
He's the guy who claims (I kid you not!) "With photographs and video alone, I can now look back across the lifespan of any individual, dead or alive, and lock in on the temporal sequence of MASS, diagnose the condition, and time of occurrence".
Just upload your photos or video and he'll perform a live consultation (naturally, for a fee).
He's a proper lunatic.
But people like you fall for it. Time and time again.
He must be the only "doctor" in the world who doesn't feel it necessary to prove anything with science and "prefers just to use common sense" (his words, yes, really!).

Getting back to the thread topic though, even though there's an obvious discrepancy between the number of cases it still far exceeds the article cited in the first post.
So with that I would say that the OP is pushing hysteria as hard or even harder than the people he's trying to bash.

Since the belief in vaccines is more like faith and religion than it is science, we thought we'd present the Vaccinology 10 Commandments as we see them:

1. Correlation doth not equal Causation (unless it defends the Sacred and Holy Vaccine).
2. It is NEVER the Sacred and Holy Vaccine. Any injuries associated with the Sacred and Holy Vaccine must be coincidence, or a lie.
3. Thou shalt not take the name of the Holy Vaccine in vain. Thou shalt not question the Holy Writings that defend the Sacred Vaccine.
4. Thou shalt not hold any medical procedure above the Sacred and Holy Vaccine. Only the Sacred and Holy Vaccine can perform the miracles claimed.
5. Thou must always follow the Vaccine Schedule, for the Sacred Vaccine is a jealous God.
6. Honor thy Offit and thy Salk, for they are the prophets of the Sacred and Holy Vaccine.
7. Thou must always trust all studies that are done by the makers of the Sacred and Holy Vaccine. They have no interest in profit, only in the health and livelihood of their congregation.
8. Thou must always take the holy sacrament of Vaccination. Any who does not Vaccinate, or who question the holy sacrament, must be called heretic.
9. Diseases that were once benign must become deadly once a Sacred Vaccine is made for them.
10. The Sacred and Holy Vaccine is always safe and effective.

Is that your reply to my post?
Seriously?

You just don't have the knowledge or experience to put forward a serious debate do you?
The word Ostrich springs to mind.

It's ironic that you're trying to compare vaccination to a belief system when, in spite of the overwhelming evidence which counters what you say, you still run with it. That is the definition of a belief system.
And to cement that fact, you post a child-like anti-vax mantra.
Astounding!

The only law I follow is that I will always go with where the irrefutable and reproducible evidence takes me. That's called empirical science.
If that in the future suggests that vaccines are bad, I'll go with that. I'm happy to change my mind.
At the moment though the proper evidence doesn't say that at all.

And on your last line, MMR doesn't contain aluminium or mercury.
Derp.
