Sounds like he got some real world eye opening, enough to know the importance of recieving a real education and found out that a real education is not what was being offered. A lot of people don't realize until it's too late what a screwed up waste of time and energy their so called education was. What's funny is some here called this student brave. Some called him a hero. This is just some naive kid who dropped out of school, struggled a bit and now thinks he has all the answers. Fuck him. If I was his dad I'd beat his ass for being 18 in the 10th grade. Damn Jeff. Just get your GED and move on to community college. |

Do we know what events led up to the student's rant? Maybe the teacher is a bad one or maybe she is not? I can't make a definative decision based on that video. How do we know the student is not the problem? Quoting: Anonymous Coward 24600889 In case you are serious, here is my answer: Jeff (student): articulate, passionate, analytical, cares about this country's future, cares enough to stand up and speak his truth to authority possibly at his own peril, courageous, has integrity. Julie Phung ("teacher"): monosyllabic, dull, un-engaged, uninterested, has 52 make-up sites "liked" on her facebook page, huh, uh huh, right, bye, bye. You can't see what's right in front of your face? You don't recognize brilliance in action? Wow, are you going to enjoy your new digs at the FEMA camp... Let's see; Jeff (student): "so don't try and take credibility for teaching me jack." Wow! That is perfect use of the English language. What would you expect when you have sub-standard teachers like that 'huh huh bye' Julie Phung? He was frustrated and mis-spoke, but it was still light years better than what the teacher said. "Bye huh bye," seriously? Have you seen her facebook page? What world history teacher has 52 eye make up websites "Liked"? We can argue semantics til the end of time, but it's pointless. You have your opinion and you're welcome to it. I really don't care what you think. If any teachers deserve blame for poor old Jeff let's start with the most important teachers he's ever had; his parents. |

If he really wanted to make a point, bring it up in private after class is let out. People only get defensive when done the way he did it. She heard nothing - once her defenses went up. 2. Education is a game. You play to get the degree. No one in academia is living in the real world. Change the system when you're in a position to do so- not when you're at their mercy to get the diploma. Pre-college public school is just a prison - set up for purposes of assimilation into the laws, rules, and customs of society. Don't confuse this for education, or that its purpose is to bestow any sort of knowledge or skill upon its students. Anyone who actually "learns" anything - is just a bonus. |
