D. Bunker User ID: 82298 United States 04/21/2006 11:01 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Your title prompts the following question... Why should Iran burn a natural resource they can sell for profit? Why not utilize nuclear energy and make maximum advantage of their oil reserve? Your logic is flawed. :savetata: Favorite Quote - "I just fucking love outer space, it has all those planets and stars and shit." - Mister Obvious 2009 |

Then they can sell all their oil, and not burn off a portion domestically. Ultimately it would mean more crude available on the open market. |

D. Bunker User ID: 82298 United States 04/21/2006 11:25 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | "why isn't it okay for US to use nuclear in the first place instead of buying their oil?!!" The United States has nuclear power plants. I have not said I am against them. :savetata: Favorite Quote - "I just fucking love outer space, it has all those planets and stars and shit." - Mister Obvious 2009 |
Dynamo Hum User ID: 75407 United States 04/21/2006 11:30 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | You are all wrong. The Persians are the premeire Environmentalists. they don't want to burn oil for power because it will contribute to global warming and destroying the ozone layer. Sheesh. Don't you guys know anything? |
Askakido User ID: 72558 United States 04/21/2006 11:48 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Only the US is "afraid" of Nuclear Power. We too are sitting on massive quantities of oil but perfer to burn up and use other people's oil than our own. Iran with all that oil, with nuclear energy can then use all that oil for petro-chemical purposes instead of just watching it go up in smoke. The US is the only nation on Earth that doesn't recycle its nuclear fuel, unless you cound depleted uranium weapons as recycling. Why is that? Why doesn't the US recycle its nuclear fuel? It makes more sense for Iran to use its oil for petro-chemical uses or to sell it than it does to depend on it exclusively for energy production. The "Environmentalist" movement is the biggest reason today that we have such a dependance on foriegn oil, hands down. |

Call this an unfair racist generalization, but hostage-taking seems to be an integral part of the Arab psyche and culture. What to do about this? Why aren't there any Arabs on Star Trek? Answer: because it takes place in the FUTURE. |
Arch~Angel User ID: 84230 United States 04/21/2006 11:57 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | The real reason is twofold. The first part is that OPEC Quotas are for oil PRODUCTION, not export. Every bit of domestic consumption that can be replaced by another source puts money into the pockets of the STATE. The second part is the fact that Iran is rich in Uranium ore. If you enrich your own fuel nuclear energy is by far the cheapest source of energy today. And don't think that oil prices will be going down to where they were a few years ago, ever. The price of nuclear energy will only be more attractive as time goes by. Gaius Germaincus User ID: 83336 United States 04/22/2006 12:05 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | With all due respect to everyone, I am siding with D. (not that anyone cares). The Arab world has a long and rich history, only since the fall of the Ottoman Empire has their culture backslid. They gave us numerals, complex math and at one time a highly rational people. Their world is in the middle of a cultural civil war, Islamist and secularists are both trying to get the upper hand. Throw in Oil wich corrupts endlessly because it is so valuable and the fact that the secularists, backed by the west tended to be tyrants, the extremists get alot of airplay from a once great civilization now marginalized. Now on to the nukes: Iran feels that nuclear power gives them more leverage on the world stage. They want to be a great power, just as the persians once were. They want to be a light to the Islamic world showing that they are succesful and Islamic. You don't get to lead by cowing down to the powers that be. You must manipulate them to your advantage, which Iran is doing quite well right now. Its a dangerous game they play, but I think they know they will not get slapped to hard because they hold too many cards for the west to call thier bluff. Its the same game Saddam played (he didn't realize that an Ace high gets beat by a pair). Of course, thats if Iran's prez is rational. He might thik he is the Madi, in which case he might get himself an invasion to repel to prove himself. We can always nuke their ass and take the gas if you are willing to be drafted to fight the whole world off while your folks at home eat bread made with sawdust after the economic collapse. The "fallout" is too great for anyone with money in their pockets to let W do anything too rash. Utinam populus Romanus unam cervicem haberet! |
Tox User ID: 54792 Canada 04/22/2006 12:17 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Just conjecture, but it could be that with the high price of oil, the amount they're using now could be exported and make more cash. The old economic axiom of "Don't get high on your own supply." I have no idea how much they use, so I'm not sure how much domestic allotted oil they'd have to sell to justify the cost of a reactor. Nah, Ahmadinejad would be spouting that day and night if it were true. The free man discovers his potential in service to a commonwealth. The kept man discovers his aptitude for subverting a commonwealth to his own ends. |

Didn't Cheney & Rumsfeld and the Like ENCOURAGE Iraq to build a Nuke plant back in the 70s??? Seems to me they did!!! I suggest the reason for this was to DRAIN the Money out of their Purses & weaken Iraq. Then the USA/Israel encouraged the Irag/Iran WAR - further weakening BOTH countries. Is it un Resonable for Iran to Build a NUKE Power Plant NOW when they still have Revenues from OIL - Rather than WAIT until Oil Revenues Decline??? MUCH of the Dealings with Iran/Iraq has to do with WEAKENING the Arab States ........... which helps the State of Treachery ~ Israel. Daniel :history: |
