Also, Jesus said in Mt. 25:46, “Then they will go away to eternal punishment, but the righteous to eternal life.” So if there is eternal life (which everyone agrees means being in the direct presence of God in heavenly bliss), there is also eternal death/punishment.

Qubbling over whether 'fire' is literal or not sidesteps the point: there really is a place of eternal suffering for those who don't accept God's terms (which are as easy as trusting Jesus).

It is a literal fire. We are baptized by fire and this world will be destroyed by fire. The book of Daniel is a template for the coming antichrist. Those that worshipped Nebuchadnezzar and threw Meshach, Shadrack, and Abednego were consumed by the fire. They were not not. There was a fourth one in the furnace with them that kept them from being consumed.
