Texas Senator Wendy Davis: Gov. Perry has demeaned his office
Texas Senator Wendy Davis responds to comments made by Gov. Perry that she 'hijacked the Democratic process.'

The state bill would have banned abortions in Texas after 20 weeks. Davis’s filibuster prevented the bill from passing during the last session of the legislature, but Texas Gov. Rick Perry (R), a supporter of the measure decided to reconvene lawmakers to try again at passage.

I was in the rotunda chanting when they bent and broke their own procedural rules to force a late vote. BTW, I am libertarian, pro-gun, pro-death penalty for those rare instances of criminals who are proud of their crimes. I am also against the expansion of immigrant amnesty, there is a difference between an illegal immigrant and a legal immigrant, and it has nothing to do with skin and everything to do with following the proper legal channels. After all my father and grandparents were legal European immigrants, and became naturalized to vote Republican. Our govt. will become insolvent due "anchor babies". I am also self-employed, and not attending the protests in affiliation with occupy or other 'movements'. The original plan was to cheer her filibuster....

I think there should be limits on when you can get an abortion, but these people (hardline pro-lifers) are extremists who want it treated as adult murder, and there would be no exception for rape or incest. They are simply intolerant and expect everyone to follow their religion.

I also think it is wrong to pass a uniform law for such things, when every situation is different. They act as though abortion was some fun, popular pastime that nobody weighs in their mind. Late abortions are usually done for health issues, and are rare. Most women don't wait that long. Not because there is trisomy or retardation, but because of babies born without any lungs at all, or absolutely no brain; what is the point in making women carry these completely non-viable pregnancies? After all some of them are guaranteed not to even be able to take their first breath, and are only living on their mother's life support. I am not a baby hater. There was a poll that 80% didn't want this legislation forced through, and 60% of them were claiming to be republican. Planned Parenthood actually provides treatments for STDs (slowing their spread, abstinence is unrealistic because humans have shown time and t5ime again that hormones override reason), and educates the poor on how not to get pregnant in the first place, along with prophylactics. They do much more than abortion. We will see the Texas economy completely collapse because thousands and thousands of unintended babies (and their mothers) will require federal assistance, and if they cancel that, then those women and children will die from starvation or illness as they do in third world countries. The devoutly religious tend to have a higher rate of pregnancy, and often their parents change their tune about abortion when its their daughter knocked up by a womanizing a$$hole at 15, mainly due to the repression, which is like pouring gasoline on teenagers sex drives. Best to be up front with the young and teach them birth control (at a reasonable age=sexual maturity, or if they ask), because hasn't experience taught us yet, they will do it anyway, and end up hating and lying to their parents if they become obstacles to their sex lives.

Maybe we should instead limit the number of abortions a woman can have, rather than blocking it completely. So that those who are simply irresponsible and abusing it as birth control can't legally do it.

No matter how illegal it may become, women will still do "menstrual extractions" at home; or injure themselves (costing taxpayers for hospital visits due to complications)in the process. Most people are so solid in their resolve about their decision that they are willing to risk their lives or commit suicide rather than have a child.

It is also ironic that the same bill would expand the death penalty for juveniles. The hypocrisy is disgusting. Most prolifers would gladly kill me in cold blood if it was legal, because of their intolerance, and inability to see reason. There is even social and psychological research that appears to show that fundamentalists lack reasoning skills to appreciate shades of grey that are definitely present in some of these situations. I have a biology major, and have my background in healthcare and have studied neurology and perception, I believe that it doesn't really hurt them, and their spirit simply returns to the source, to come back where they are needed. I do believe in a higher power, and am spiritual, but believe that people who follow dogma are irrational and represent the true mob mentality. The people who claim it is murder from day one have serious issues, and no understanding of human development. There is a difference between a 4 month fetus and a neonate. A neonate is protected, and can remember stuff...I know a couple who had twins premature at 22 weeks
(earliest ever), and they will never understand anything, never speak, never have autonomous control over even the simplest of their biological functions. They will also not live very long. They get sick all the time, and are stuck at a very early stage of development. I am not suggesting they be killed, because they survived 5 years now, and fortunately were born to a family who has the means to provide for them, but they are an example of the product of a 22 week gestation.

I know that no matter what the people do, the law will be passed, and the country will witness the US slip into a theocratic government (Kind of like Iran, but "Christian"<---note quotation marks), that will entrap and imprison those who aren't christian enough. (I have read the bible and I'm pretty sure Jesus wouldn't approve either). BTW religiotrolls, I won't argue/feed you, so please don't bother. Your arguments are moot, I am at peace with my life, not lost and have my own beliefs. How about you have some faith in the laws of the universe and that things will sort themselves out. It is not the same as murder on a post-natal human.

Watch me get banned...just for my beliefs, which would prove my point about extremist fundamentalists and their plans for the rest of us.

Notice how neither mainstream side of the abortion debate focuses on the taxpayer funding?

The right says abortion should be outlawed. And wastes enormous amounts of money and time passing legislation to make it illegal.

The left says it is fundamental right of women to have power over their bodies.

This chick was on the big MSM shows this morning. She is implying that without tax payer funding, there wont be abortion clinics.

Okay, but if it is part of women health, why can't it be done in a standard medical facility along will all other kinds of women health procedures like mastectomies?

Limiting the # of abortions per person would make sense. Most people who get one, make a serious effort to never get another one. It is unpleasant from what I understand. The example used to rally pro-life support; of impulsive and irresponsible girls abusing it, is very rare, with less than 1% abusing it (using it more than twice in their lives).

Re: Texas Senator Wendy Davis: Gov. Perry has demeaned his office
The law says they would have to be hospital/surgical centers, and many would have to knock down and rebuild to conform to code. This would be impossible, particularly since funding for most of these groups has been cut already.

As I understand it, there are not very many complications with abortions done in existing facilities. The vast majority of abortions are early in the term. I think the Gosnell case is an extreme instance of abuse (he is an example of who shouldn't be a Dr. because he lacks compassion) that has been spearheaded for support to ban abortion all out.

When it passes, you will see the results. Women bleeding to death and dying from sepsis at home (their baby still murdered), or ending up on life support on taxpayers dime. You don't want some of these people having children(they themselves are unwilling), and you will see the results in a generation. There is already an overabundance of children available for adoption. The odds are against most of them, as they are abused and neglected, and often addicted to crack or ill.

It is hypocrisy also that the unborn are cared for so much, but once they pass through the birth canal they and their mother are derided as subhuman leeches by those same people who have the nerve to call themselves Christian. Maybe if you allow it, but limit it, then you can have your cake and eat it too.

I don't get it at all then. Why can't these organization either build surgical level facilities, or use the money to pay for women to have them done in existing surgical facilities?

There is a huge amount of people out of work right now. Commercial builders are doing jobs below cost right now, just to keep their suppliers in business.

That is one evil witch, I can see her and her friends standing around a boiling cauldron chanting:
1 WITCH. Thrice the brinded cat hath mew'd.
2 WITCH. Thrice and once, the hedge-pig whin'd.
3 WITCH. Harpier cries:—'tis time! 'tis time!
1 WITCH. Round about the caldron go;
In the poison'd entrails throw.—
Toad, that under cold stone,
Days and nights has thirty-one;
Swelter'd venom sleeping got,
Boil thou first i' the charmed pot!
ALL. Double, double toil and trouble;
Fire burn, and caldron bubble.
2 WITCH. Fillet of a fenny snake,
In the caldron boil and bake;
Eye of newt, and toe of frog,
Wool of bat, and tongue of dog,
Adder's fork, and blind-worm's sting,
Lizard's leg, and owlet's wing,—
For a charm of powerful trouble,
Like a hell-broth boil and bubble.
ALL. Double, double toil and trouble;
Fire burn, and caldron bubble.
3 WITCH. Scale of dragon; tooth of wolf;
Witches' mummy; maw and gulf
Of the ravin'd salt-sea shark;
Root of hemlock digg'd i the dark;
Liver of blaspheming Jew;
Gall of goat, and slips of yew
Sliver'd in the moon's eclipse;
Nose of Turk, and Tartar's lips;
Finger of birth-strangled babe
Ditch-deliver'd by a drab,—
Make the gruel thick and slab:
Add thereto a tiger's chaudron,
For the ingrediants of our caldron.
ALL. Double, double toil and trouble;
Fire burn, and caldron bubble.
2 WITCH. Cool it with a baboon's blood,
Then the charm is firm and good.
There's a man in a white house with blood on his mouth!
If there's Knaves in the North, there are braves in the South.
We are three thousand horses, and not one afraid;

You make some great points, however babies have been known to live at 5 months, if you are pregnant at 5 months you do not or should not be granted an abortion, you can give that baby away when it is born....

Abortion Clinics are now set up to abort a 5 month old pregnant girl, many girls die in these types of surgical abortions, in addition the pain the baby goes through as it is forced out of the mother's womb...

How disgusting a and vile to murder a baby when it is 5 months along, this is how depraved people are today....

No point in arguing with a godless Democrat on abortion, its part of their pagan religion and antichrist. They also believe in post-birth abortion because they consider the baby a 'growth'. They also are typically are cool with gay, incest, beastiality, too.

Wendy Davis is a disgrace to the great state of Texas, standing up there blathering on about baby killing, as if she were talking about the Jews in 1930s Berlin. She and her ilk make me disgusted. We'll probably see her again blathering on for incest "marriage" rights.
The Right Policy is Always Conservative

"The danger to America is not Barack Obama, but a citizenry capable of entrusting a man like him with the Presidency. It will be far easier to limit and undo the follies of an Obama presidency than to restore the necessary common sense and good judgment to a depraved electorate willing to have such a man for their president. The problem is much deeper and far more serious than Mr. Obama, who is a mere symptom of what ails America . Blaming the prince of fools should not blind anyone to the vast confederacy of fools that made him their prince. The Republic can survive a Barack Obama, who is, after all, merely a fool. It is less likely to survive a multitude of fools, such as those who made him their President." - Vaclav Klaus

Re: Texas Senator Wendy Davis: Gov. Perry has demeaned his office
First of all thank you for the post. I was not there, but your description is valuable. I am ashamed that this went down like it did. My first impulse would be to say that these women were not from Texas. We don't do it like that here.

As a Christian my first impulse is to say abortion at any stage should be illegal. It is the invasion of a woman's womb to murder an innocent life residing there. that in itself will cause severe psychological distress forever to any woman that would allow a fetus to be killed inside of her and taken out as trash.

However - in researching how Roe v Wade was decided initially, it was because once a woman decided she did not want to be pregnant, she probably is going to have an abortion whether it is legal or not. That was the thinking when abortions were first made legal and I can understand that.

Here is what I cannot understand and refuse to support: How could any woman wait until she is 20 weeks pregnant to decide to have an abortion and expect that to be legal? She has by that time missed 5 periods.

The doctor who performs an abortion at 20 weeks is killing a baby who could have lived if delivered. He is just killing it inside the mother. I cannot get past the psychological ramifications for the doctor or the mother that would allow something like this. THere has to be a huge price to pay.

How is it that if we kill the baby inside the mother it is not murder but if the baby is delivered alive and then we kill it it would be considered murder? Dingdong?

Abortion after 20 weeks is pure and simply murder and no matter how you want to dance around it for woman's rights or how bad the life is going to be for the child( (and you are right, it is probably going to be bad, happens every day, all the time) -- it still gives no doctor the right and no mother the right to kill a child which could be viable.

Texans have spoken -- they do not want abortion after 20 weeks. Go to a different state and start up your stuff there. But I will tell you something -- whether it is Texas, Georgia, Pennsylvania or wherever-- you are still a murderer.

Something else just crossed my mind and I had to write it out. It is GLP....

What if men were pregnant? What if a woman was going to reach deep inside you and with a suction machine or a lethal injection kill the baby that you were carrying inside of you?

What would the abortion rate look like if it were men carrying babies?

What would the abortion laws be?

Would men let a doctor kill a child that had been moving inside them for a month or so and that could be delivered alive? Would they let another man kill their baby?

What do you think?

I see that point, but at the same time ...

Enforcing building standards is something that governments do. Have you ever tried to rehabilitate an old house? Those inspectors will make you dance on the head of a pin, or you don't get an occupancy permit. which means you can't get in-surance. which means you can't get a loan. which means you can't pay taxes. All to do about a place to keep rain off your head. Something humans have been doing for thousands of years.

We have hundreds of years of technology improving the standards of the rooms where we stick knives into people. And now the liberals, who are generally the biggest statists, don't want to follow their own ethos?

Re: Texas Senator Wendy Davis: Gov. Perry has demeaned his office
Maybe one of the reasons she has to wait 5 months is there are not enough clinics for her to get it done. This bill wont help. Now women will just have to take their lives into their own hands...it was an invasion of her womb to be pregnant if she was raped, even worse by her father, or another married man...

They only got it to go through because of the provision about the 22 weeks/20 weeks. It is a 2 week difference.

Maybe I would go for that, but there's no exception for unusual circumstances. If you can't understand that sometimes there are situations that call for exceptions to some rules then we can't have any dialogue or compromise. The real goal for them was to close most of the clinics, and expand the death penalty to juveniles. I don't care if you think we will go to hell. I'm not atheist, and you guys are having knee jerk reactions, as expected. I can tell you just skimmed the post and the hate flooded all reason out.

There are probably lots more people that don't like this bill but don't know what's really in it, or are scared to be discriminated against socially and in employment for expressing their beliefs.

I'm telling you people who lump everyone together that some of us are otherwise conservative, and this will represent an intrusion of government on the private lives of individuals.
I understand you see things in black and white, and therefore can't be reasoned with.

 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 6038128

Amnio is done between week 16-20. My spouse and I are struggling with infertility and even though we both want a child (biological only, we have no desire to adopt and raise some fuck-ups kid) we will be having amnio and if the baby has issues like down syndrome we will have the baby aborted.

Perry and everyone else in the gov needs to stay the hell out of the decisions that people make with their doctors.

I also find it comical that the pro-lifers care about babies until they are shit out. Then they don't care if they starve.

Wendy Davis supports late-term abortion, i.e. murder.
