Well, it depends on where your interests lie. If you like philosophy or literature or cinema for instance, reading/watching some of the French greats in their native tongue is priceless (I LOVE PHILOSOPHY!). But maybe your kid has different interests, you should ask them what makes them passionate about learning and choose a language accordingly IMO. There is more to life than learning something only for economic or geopolitical purposes. Not trying to be a dick, just giving a counterpoint. There is a lot of hating on France on this website, but they have produced some of the western world's greatest minds.
