What color were they?

I'm east of Detroit and stepped out on my patio to see the city size fireworks going off in my neighborhood about 40 minutes ago, and seen a red dot flying rapidly across the sky from the west. Before I could snap a pic it disappeared! Thought it went behind a low thin cloud and could get it in the clear, but it never came back

I'm north of you in Lake Orion/Lapeer and we saw it too, it was big, red, and disappeared into a cloud before we could get video. DEFINITELY NOT A PLANE/NOT FIREWORKS!

I keep seeing them in the Chicago area too, and they keep self-destructing for some reason!

these were red and white lit but they were going pretty slow moving directly north. i saw four in formation, one solo and then another solo. the first solo thing was going north and then up and went into space and disappeared.
maybe they're out in force tonight but what are they doing?
there's no shame in their game since everybody is looking up tonight.

it's not a plane because they have flashing lights.

the first thing i saw were for of those things flying in a spread out diamond shape. the sky was still slightly light and what i could make out is that they were not any flying shape i saw before. they looked like nodules or something. flying low and slow.

Holy Crap dude! I believe you because I saw them too! Started out in diamond formation, too close to be planes, no sound, then disappeared. There were several groups. I totally missed the fireworks show I was at. They were way more COOL TO WATCH!!!!!

so how would you describe what you saw? i caught the last group of 4 if you say there were others. that's very cool you saw them too! it's not the first time i've seen flying weirdness in this town but nothing like this before, not groups of four. that's cool you saw them because as you said, way more interesting than the fireworks.

People saying its lanterns.....Lanterns dont go several hundreds of miles per hour

I have seen the same thing as described here in the Western Suburbs of the city! It seems they like to come out at this time because I remember also seeing them last year on the 4th of July or right around a day before/after as well!

i just saw another one. this one was far away to the east and i couldn't get it filmed but it was flying and vanished.

Hey OP. People are saying lanterns but what myself and 3 others saw were blinking at regular intervals. FLAMES DON'T DO THAT!!!

They either like fireworks or they want to be seen, knowing lots of people will be looking up in their direction at this time! :)
