$600 a week and you'd be living like one of those scungy, tye-died pants backpacker types who haggle over a few baht and live in cockroach-infested dorms, thinking it's hardcore (but hating it).

Lets say you go right down market and pay 300/mnth rent. That leaves you 300 about $80/week or $11-12 a day for all your outgoings. That's chicken shit, and you'd be scumming i to live half way decent anywhere in Asia on that, let alone Thailand. Sure, you can eak out a living on rice and shit, but that aint no fun. You have to think about medical insurance, phone, transport, nights out at a bar, general bills etc etc. I'm telling you, it's not worth scumming it on a 'budget'. It gets old after about 1 week. True. And when the Thais see someone scumming it, there are no more smiles :D
