When it comes to roasting, I know that air-roasting is best, but in a pinch you can use a cast-iron frying pan. I guess I could use my popcorn popper if we dont lose electricity after the SHTF. Either way, I will have coffee. I'm tired of waiting, somebody push the damn button already! Keep your 72 virgins, give me one old biker chick. |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 35537095 sweetmarias.com good info.... Yeah, I worked in the specialty coffee industry til recently for about 15 years. Roasting at home on a Behmor drum roaster (glorified toaster) and I love it. I'll roast any beans I can get my hands on but the Behmor has some definite limitations... if anything is too high-grown and dense I can't hit it with enough heat to properly cook the inside of the bean without scorching the the outside and I definitely prefer a lighter to mid roast. BUT, thats what buying and trading coffee from other roasters is all about. Can't believe this got pinned, but I'll nerd out all day about this subject. "Tempus loquendi, tempus tacendi" |

It was either the Starving African Kid, or the coffee tree in South America. It really wasn't a hard decision. I get a bag of coffee once a year from my tree. |

Trust me. My mother, GRHS, was addicted to it. I only figured this out years later. God forbid we ever ran out of coffee (decades ago; undisclosed country; shortages); duck and cover! All you preppers... rather than (extra) cases of whiskey, stock up on coffee. Much lighter, by weight, to store and carry; easily traded; addiction to the stuff guarantees demand. Doesn't matter whole bean, ground, or instant (chemically laced crap, but will do in a pinch), deman will override any inhibitions engtrained by former values. Instant also dissolves somewhat reasonably in unheated water. Cofee! Stock up. ;) |
