Tom Coburn told a town hall crowd this week, two reports said Thursday. The Oklahoma Republican noted he was "a personal friend" of the president during the Muskogee town hall event, but said the administration suffers from incompetence. I guess Obama is one blow job away, huh? |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 8251678 Malaysia 08/23/2013 09:03 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Well, kids, since it has been about five whole seconds since some Republican said President Obama should be impeached, it’s about that time again. Who is impeachsplaining at us today? Why, it’s Oklahoma Sen. Tom Coburn (no, not that spackle-brained dick weasel Oklahoma senator, but the other one). And why are we IMPEACH!ing the president today? Is it for presidenting while black? Or IRSgate? Or that new puppy? No! It is because of a new standard Sen. Coburn just discovered (read: invented) that did not exist in the era of George W. Bush but it is now a high crime and misdemeanour. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 8251678 And what is this new standard? Why, it is incompetency! “What you have to do is you have to establish the criteria that would qualify for proceedings against the president and that’s called impeachment” Coburn said, responding to a question about holding President Obama accountable. “That’s not something you take lightly and you have to use a historical precedent of what that means. I think there’s some intended violation of the law in this administration, but I also think there’s a ton of incompetence of people who are making decisions.” Sure, that makes sense. After all, Republicans are especially outraged at how Obama so incompetently mishandled the response to Hurricane Katrina four years before he actually became president, but so what, that’s just, like, semantics. And it’s not like Coburn is saying IMPEACH!, exactly, he’s just saying IMPEACH! maybe. “My little wiggle out of that when I get that written to me is I believe that needs to be evaluated and determined but thank goodness it doesn’t have to happen in the Senate until they’ve brought charges in the House. Those are serious things but we’re in a serious time. I don’t have the legal background to know if that rises to high crimes and misdemeanor but I think they’re getting perilously close.” Besides, Coburn isn’t saying the president has done anything impeachable yet. He’s just “perilously close.” We are not sure what that means. One more adopted puppy? One more trip to the exotic foreign country of Hawaii? One more day in office as a black president? (Sorry, Peggy Noonan, we know how you hate when anyone suggests that there is anything racist about racism.) Anyway, we’re pretty sure this is not personal. After all, Coburn says some of his best friends are presidents he think should be impeached. Maybe. If someone with more legal background can figure out something to charge the president with. So once again, what exactly are the charges? You have to have specific charges to impeach or prosecute anyone. And "I don't like him" or "he is a gay, socialist Kenyan usurper" are not legal charges. Coburn doesn't say…so what are they if he is "perilously close"??? |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 45435838 United States 08/23/2013 09:09 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | At least idiot Biden can't play the race card, and seems completely incapable of playing president. With luck, we could drift until 2016. The real problem is that neither him, nor Boner, nor anyone else in the line of succession is a statesman - just a bunch of worn out political hacks. |

How is that enough to lay impeachment charges? Fast and Furious? You do realize that articles of impeachment must be for ""treason, bribery, or other high crimes and misdemeanors" right? So how would you construct any of those as such? You might recall that there was a movement to impeach George W. Bush for the lies and fabrications regarding Iraq and WMDs in order to start the war there. Legals experts claimed that even those fabrications which led to thousands of American deaths could not be constructed into impeachment charges. |

Can the plain citizens in general, impeach members of congress? Quoting: Anonymous Coward 25919409 You can petition to have an elected official face a "recall election", but this is most often used at the State, County and City level. I remember a couple of Senators being recalled, but not sure if any member of Congress has been recalled. Anonymous Coward User ID: 8251678 Malaysia 08/23/2013 09:30 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Obama does not have to live by the same rules that ALL OTHER PRESIDENTS HAVE HAD TO DO. Quoting: mikebo2 He can do anything...Anything at all and he will NEVER be Impeached. Of course he does, or else he would have been impeached by now. And of course he can be impeached. All it takes is for the House to specify the articles of impeachment and try him. Impeachment proceedings may be commenced by a member of the House of Representatives on their own initiative, either by presenting a listing of the charges under oath, or by asking for referral to the appropriate committee. So why hasn't that happened yet? Because you cannot impeach a president because you don't like him or because he is black or because you believe he is an uppity gay Kenyan socialist usurper. Obviously a lot of people feel very strongly that Obama should not be in office, and if there were legitimate articles of impeachment, the GOP controlled House would have files them by now. The problem is - there just aren't any. |

Can the plain citizens in general, impeach members of congress? Quoting: Anonymous Coward 25919409 No. Members of the Senate and House of Representatives are removed from office through a different process involving only the chamber of Congress in which they work. Under Article I, Section 5, clause 2, of the US Constitution, a Senator or Representative may be expelled if there is a formal vote on a resolution agreed to by two-thirds of the members of the Senate or House body who are present. Article I, Section 5, Clause 2 "Each House may determine the rules of its proceedings, punish its members for disorderly behavior, and, with the concurrence of two thirds, expel a member." |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 8251678 Malaysia 08/23/2013 09:42 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I intensely dislike Zero. The senators are woosies... pansies... schoolgirls.... and whimpy momma's boys. They'll do ABSOLUTELY nothing while the ship of state sinks and they're in the wheelhouse. Maybe, but it's the House of Representatives (GOP controlled) that brings Articles of Impeachment, not the Senate. If you are so worried about the "ship of state" and want to wine about stuff, maybe you should go educate yourself so that you don't sound like a moran. |

Well, it was hardly an invasion since there were not even any boots on the ground there. But what about the Korean War? Was Truman impeached because he sent troops there in 1950 without Congressional approval? Why wasn't he impeached? Other such use of presidential power without Congressional approval include: Haiti (2004), Bosnia (1995), Haiti (1994), Somalia (1992), Panama (1989), Libya (1986), Lebanon (1982), and Iran (1980).
