If you happen to phone a friend, who is in the middle of being told a joke, with some bad news would you be upset if you heard laughter in the background?

Before anyone says this was a place of work that deals with emergency calls, I KNOW!!!

If doctors and nurses, paramedics and firemen could not share a private laugh, they could not deal with the awful things they deal with, so that the rest of us don't have to.

It is obvious they were not laughing at the caller.

I agree with most of what you posted! I'm just asking what peeps think..it sounds to me they were already in the midst of something funny when he called.

And you know one of the worst things in the world is when you try to stifle a laugh, you'll just explode with laughter. When I was a kid in church my brother was doing things to make me laugh and the harder I tried not to the worse it got.

But I also have to say it's not like calling a friend with bad news. She's an emergency operator and it's unfortunate that she let the laugh out. How would you feel if your husband was in flames and all you heard was laughter when you had 911 on the line.

I don't know exactly why, but it easy for me to believe if someone calls 911 and says "my girlfriend is on fire", operator or someone else might think it's funny.

I think they laughed because the operator asked if his gf was still on fire....it wasnt intentional just happened! Yea people suck but come on...let this one go lol

I get it, almost made me want to laugh. She hasn't lost her job, I have a feeling she wont. Seems like she's been an operator for awhile and has a good record.

I know what you mean it was a very serious situation. If I heard laughing in the background I would like to think that it was NOT my call that was making them laugh.

In fact, I would very much doubt that anyone on the end of emergency calls would find someone burning funny.

I think it is very sad that it happened when this person called, but like I said, they have a really hard job and I am sure laughing at stuff helps them do it.

yeah sometimes I laugh at really inappropriate situations and can't help it. maybe it was the way she asked if she was still on fire. that's random enough it would probably make me chuckle for a second too.

and sometimes trying to stifle the laugh makes me laugh even more. not good in certain situations, like, let's say during the times I'm reading GLP at 3 in the morning bc I can't sleep and I'm cackling like an asshole but hoping husband doesn't wake up to my silliness. the more i try to STFU the harder I laugh.

I didn't think you were trying to give me a hard time :) I just don't know how I would feel if I were the caller. But I also know how hard it is to stifle a laugh.

I was looking at pics of a collection of pinterest disasters a few days ago and I was trying to keep it down because my son was sleeping but I ended up in tears I was laughing so hard.

I am going to look for it and post it here, it's really funny.
