That is probably the best image of ISON I've seen so far,and I've seen allot of them, I'd put this right up there with Adam Block's October 8 one. Would GLP consider posting this on Spaceweather.com? Anyways I'm betting that's a telescope you're going to miss right? LOL- |

How could he possibly say that until it has swung around the sun and passed Earth? NOBODY KNOWS IF ISON IS GOING TO BE SPECTACULAR OR NOT UNTIL THE END OF NOVEMBER INTO DECEMBER. |

Reality420 User ID: 19757918 United States 10/27/2013 01:59 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Did they replace the original LX400-ACF or are they now calling that model "RCX400" and you are following suit? Quoting: Reality420 19757918 The LX was an RC so... Which scope did you use for the wide field? Which imager? The STL-1001E? It seems to be NABG. Thanks man! The "RCX400 Max Mount" here is a pre-Meade lawsuit model, with a serial number in the single digits. One of the first. [link to www.ohgizmo.com] I still like to call her by her original name. And yes, it's a STL-1001E. NABG indeed, but it doesn't intrude too badly in this image I think. Pulled out the big guns with the 20" RC and the 1001E. Nah, it doesn't intrude much at all. If it did you'd hear about it from your trolls. Look at what STEREO and SOHO do... they let those electrons flow, baby. Entire rows consumed. "Must have QE. Must have QE." That .gif may be desired for publication by somebody. They can all go to spaceweather.com in any event. Excellent processing skills man. I think maybe only Hap could give you a run for the money of the people on GLP... or most other sites. Have fun. R. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 28804628 United States 10/27/2013 02:03 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | A lot of people have been asking for the GLP observatory to image comet ISON, so I made a trip up here last night in order to capture an image of ISON with the main 20" RCX400 telescope. It came out even better than I expected; it turned out that ISON went right by spiral galaxy NGC 3429 (as well as a bunch of other distant background galaxies) from an earth-based point of view this morning. I captured it in color by using two of the observatory's telescopes simultaneously; one recording in color at lower angular resolution and slower cadence, and the main 20" telescope recording in monochrome for the maximum angular resolution and sensitivity possible. Quoting: Dr. Astro [link to img46.imageshack.us] Enjoy! *Actually, Simbad lists the galaxy as NGC 3428, SkySafari lists it as both NGC 3429 and NGC 3428, but the former seems to be an error in SkySafari's database. Beautiful! |
