How can you rent an apartment with bad credit?

Think alternative rental...... not just the regular "apartment complex" or "rental agency." during grad school I rented the amazing 2nd floor of an old house. The 90-year old woman lived mostly downstairs.

After grad school, I got to live almost for free in an AMAZING, newly renovated apartment that was a 1920's school. I just had to do the yardwork, vacuum/dust, sweep out the laundry area!

Don't let "BAD CREDIT" take you out. Be willing do look at this differently. Think creatively and GO FOR IT!

I didn't realize credit checks were performed for renting appts... that seems excessive. sounds like typical America though.

Landlords want PROOF that you're not a cheapskate who's gonna wreck their shit and skip out on bills...

What other way is there to "show" them that in leiu of a credit report?

Maybe you can find a good landlord who will take recommendation letters from your family or friends that support your willingness and ability to pay...

You'd be surprised how many places are going empty these days...landlords are cutting deals like mad...you should at the very least be able to rent a crap shack in the boon docks if it comes to it.

lots of places "in the hood" will rent to you not to mention slumlords...1st & last months rent plus a sizeable deposit. check the classifieds or craigs list.

My brother was in your boat OP. He ended up renting a small house from some random guy in the paper. He had to prepay his rent and he had to give the guy two months deposit but it all worked out in the long run.

Build a hidden room behind a bookshelf. This probably takes some long term planning and a lot of invisibility potion. Post a video of your stealthy hideaway, be sure to collect add revenue from your YouTube hits. You will soon be on your way to an apt. Blessing use real sage. That's all I got.

Rent it under someone else's name, somebody with good credit. I never had a guy check my ID whenever I rented an apartment. If you're renting off some big outfit with a head office out of town that's even better.

They don't know shit from shinola and don't care as long as the checks keep coming. It's the mom and pop guy who's eventually going to find out who you really are and have a problem with it.

Property management companies do it here...they don't want to get stiffed for sheriff fees for elongate evictions.

money talks and opens doors. if you have enough up front you can get anything you want.

Any rental thats decent to live in in my area runs a credit check.Even landlords that only have a couple of houses to rent do so too.Apparently if you rent property you are allowed access to credit history of any potential renter.Bad credit you wont find a rental here.

Try to find someone renting a duplex or a condo. Sometimes they want the deposit up front and don't run a credit check. I went thru this with my ex many, many years ago and found some excellent homes. You may also try to find someone who is renting a basement apt....

You can rent an apartment with shitty credit OP, but as someone here already said it's going to be in shitsville. My sister and her at-the-time fiancee had to live in such an apartment complex. The people who lived above them (illegals) had a little party every weekend when management was nowhere around (they never showed up Saturdays and Sundays). There would be beer cans falling off the patio from above, beer bottles and garbage on the ground inside their little enclosure and on the outside of it. Very classy place it was.

Don;t forget your key money. You can pretty much buy a guarantor in Japan now. Lot's of old folks doing it to supplement income. I was lucky and had my company set it up all for me.

I rented with no credit report when i moved from turkey to Us. I had to pay 6 months in advance and i think 2 months deposit. If you have some money talk to a real estate agent. You can find one that will be willing to help you. Maybe you can prepay 3 months and get a rental. I explained my situation to the agent and asked for her help. she trusted me and talked to the landowner and we found a solution. I gave almost all my cash at the time but i had a contract. I told her how much i could prepay and we worked with what i had.

the "System" has ruined your life. yer fucked.

I live in a major apartment complex in CA. Had to put down a $2k deposit on a small apartment. No problem. After a year of paying my rent they will return about $1200 as long as I keep paying on time as I will. It's not the end of the world but as always it takes money.

and they need to live in a Guesthouse/ Shared House or Internet Cafe!

It really depends on where you are renting - I have been where you are - Ten years ago, after a nasty divorce, my husband left my credit in shreds. Still, I had a good job, decent income - and I was able to rent a nice apartment.

I dunno how bad your credit is - but most landlords are looking at your credit to see if you have ever been evicted. A few late pays isn't going to keep you from getting a rental.

Live in a mobile home rental.

Marrying a woman who can't handle money actually makes YOU look like you can't make good decisions, or keep things in control in your life.

You can freeze your credit reports you know.
That makes them totally inaccessible to anyone that not not currently a creditor.
Of course, you will need to give them a story about why they can't access your credit... tell them you were a victim of identity theft or whatever.

But yeah.... my credit reports have been frozen since 2007. I don't unfreeze them for anyone or any reason. I opted out of the credit system and I'm not going back in, ever.

Real estate companies handle apt and houses here in Hawaii, unless you can find the owner trying to rent you have to pay $25.00 for a credit check. They seem to check credit for even some job employment

As many have said, it's tough. DONT pay any fees to any providers claiming they can help you. We almost got burned.

Fortunately a friend of mine recommended me to a company that had helped his co worker, check out the company ez lease rentals you dont need good credit only requirement is being able to verify your income I think.
