If the whole internet begging thing is a turnoff, I would suggest volunteering or donating to any shelter. Battered womens' shelters would benefit greatly, and kids that are homeless because their mothers were beaten are probably the most in need. If there is no battered womens shelter near you, homeless or animal shelters are also good options.

i walk the fine line between being able to provide for my family and being the one asking for the handouts most of the time. But i know that between my husband and i, and our families, my kids are going to get enouh for Christmas. I give my extra change to anyone i can, but it is a pittance really. some goes int he buckets, some gets "dropped" where random people find it, and sometimes it is just a coffe paid for for the guy in line behind me.
That is all i can do this year, but i look forward to future years when i can make a real difference for others.

I don't have much but I guarantee I have more than you! I don't have cable I live in a motel room with my son. Have been in treatment for over a year and yes the hotel pays for my internet. Lost my mother in law a few months ago and my family hasn't celebrated Christmas in 3 years, I haven't seen my brothers or sisters in over 25 years and I still have more than you. So Im going to do it, I give you my prayers to heal your dark sorrowful heart. I give you hugs even though I don't know you. If you were before me I'd wash your tired feet and bring you rest. I give you my joy for seeing God in everyone's face and the light that beams from your face when you smile. I give you my shoulders to help carry your heavy burdens in life but most of all I give you my heart because it is all I have

Actually just investigated and reported a guy who had a fake Autism charity, just ripping off parents of Autistic kids with fake online schools, fake camps....dirtbags..

Since the OP placed this here, I have been reading about the needs just in my state. Oh my God. I want to help them all, but of course, I cannot help them all, so I must choose, how do you do that?... How do you choose who to help. My heart is broken.

Idea I tried to float at my church:

Go to the county hospital.
Not only are they broke, they are sick and hurting.
Some drive long distances to get help.
Gas money, snacks, sympathy, magazines,
gift cards, blankets,(cold in there waiting for 8-12 hours)
whatever you can think of would help.
I met a grama in a wheelchair last time I had to take someone there, she was weeping because her relative left her there with no way home over the mountain.

I have a request for a deserving single mom:

she is in fla
I'm in hawaii

she babysat my baby when I was living in hiding in fla from my violent ex and his detectives
but that's another story.
she is an angel on this earth but also made a poor choice in mates and got left holding the bag and has serious health issues lately.

she is raising her toddler in one part of fla and needs to get the other end of fla for her teenager's surgery dec 4.
she just needs gas money and a couple of starbucks/jamba juice cards and she can make the drive.

her old car broke down last year and she was taking the bus for a while and we prayed and gave thanks for a car for her and a couple months ago, someone gave her a used car! it will make it to pensacola. she just needs gas and food money.

I've been thinking to call churches in Sarasota to see if anyone will contribute a food card or gas card, but soooo busy on my end w/ my children and work and then I saw this thread and got hopeful!

I send her and her children presents for Christmas with @ 20 every year. I will send her a little extra, but she's literally on zero dollars.

so here's my request: if anyone would want to contribute a starbucks card or gas card to get her there, I think they could be sent to the local AAA. I'll call them today to see...

TV's and DVD's I don't give to people. Like 3 years ago people were begging for laptops, and Ipads. I don't thinks so if I don't have one, I wont be buying it for others. I put things into 2 different categories. 1) Wants (Things they want but can live without)2) Needs (Things they really need to live) I only give to needs not wants. However if kids need things for Christmas, usually I knit them slippers, mittens, kids balls, and send them a few dollar store toys, and throw in some crayons and coloring books. Last year I sent dollar tree cards out to people and many were not happy. I would have thought $20 gift cards would have made anyone happy.

However if they need food, I send them coupons for free food items, gift cards for local grocery stores, and even send them food. I bought one lady $400 worth of food 2 years ago through schwans. She told me 2 weeks after Christmas the food tasted nasty and was junk. Strange how she didn't appreciate getting $400 worth of free food when she had been sitting there with no food in her house for over a month. These are the folks that want money not food so they can go get high or drunk. They don't care about their kids.

I would say o maybe ask Chey in the Chat room, she can help sometimes with how to help folks, and who to help out. Remember some just come to 2 hands year after year to get free stuff, and not really in need. Chey and some others do some checking on folks that come into the chat room, and they sort of know which ones are really and truly in need.

Well this is embarrassing but I do need some help. Right off the bat I realize I'm not as bad off as many other people, just to get that out of the way.

I need to get my car fixed. I haven't worked in a while and I just started working third shift at K-Mart. I'm trying to reestablish a work history so that I can get a better job. The wheel bearings on my car need to be replaced and this is something that I can't do myself. I don't have the money to get it fixed. I have been struggling to get rides back and forth, even walking a few times, but at some point I'm afraid that I'm going to end up losing the job because I'll end up missing too much work.
