Leave those animals to peace and evolution. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 51602322 Interestingly, Madagascar was first settled by Polymesian people, and the royal family is still of Polynesian heritage . Then came the Africans and it really went to shit. I Support Our First Responders |

I wonder if any of the personnel attending Mandela's funeral might have been exposed to any plague bacillus as they are, of course, returning back around the world. It's potentially a remarkable way of transmitting such a virulent disease. |

Madagascar should be quarantined before it jumps to mainland Africa. |
Nefarious Libertine User ID: 44606283 United States 12/15/2013 06:25 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | This is some nasty stuff: From the CDC With pneumonic plague, the first signs of illness are fever, headache, weakness, and rapidly developing pneumonia with shortness of breath, chest pain, cough, and sometimes bloody or watery sputum. The pneumonia progresses for 2 to 4 days and may cause respiratory failure and shock. Without early treatment, patients may die. Early treatment of pneumonic plague is essential. To reduce the chance of death, antibiotics must be given within 24 hours of first symptoms. Streptomycin, gentamicin, the tetracyclines, and chloramphenicol are all effective against pneumonic plague. Antibiotic treatment for 7 days will protect people who have had direct, close contact with infected patients. Wearing a close-fitting surgical mask also protects against infection. A plague vaccine is not currently available for use in the United States. [link to www.bt.cdc.gov] I mean one day you feel sick, the next your coughing up blood but by that time it's to late to do anything the 24hr period is past to get antibiotics. Wiki has it that the death rate without treatment is almost 100% If this breaks out screw a n95 face mask. I'm going full bore half face respirator with hepa filter. Probably just won't leave the house. Last Edited by Account Deleted by User on 12/15/2013 09:49 PM We do not learn from history because our studies are brief and prejudiced. Anonymous Coward User ID: 49865757 United States 12/15/2013 07:39 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Two pneumonic plague cases have been found in Madagascar, said a health official there. The pneumonic plague is deadlier than the bubonic plague. This new report comes after confirmation that there was also an outbreak of the deadly bubonic plague in the island’s northwest region in a tiny village. Pneumonic plague can be transmitted from human to human without any involvement of fleas or animals. It is also the least common and most virulent form of plague, which can kill in less than 24 hours. Bubonic plague was found in the town of Mandritsara in northwestern Madagascar last week. Twenty people and possibly more have been reported killed by the plague. This week it was confirmed by The Pasteur Institute of Madagascar that tests on some of the bodies from the village near Mandritsara showed that the cause of death had been the plague. However, the institute did not give a number of how many died from the outbreak. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 51369950 Pneumonic plague occurs from the same bacteria, which cause bubonic plague, the so-named Black Death, which ravaged Europe by killing an what was estimated to be over 25 million people during the Middle Ages. It's pretty much Katie bar the door then. Wiki-2012, the airport handled 61,556,202 passengers and 497,763 aircraft movements, making it the world's seventh busiest airport and Europe's second busiest airport (after London Heathrow) in passengers served.
