Cannabis can help prevent deaths if this become widespread. Really, no shillery-cannabis reduces wheezing, relieves cough and may very well save your life by keeping your lungs from being overwhelmed by the immune response if this virus becomes a pandemic and there is a breakdown in our hospital system.

If you have to resort to home treatment of this deadly virus, consider adding cannabis preparations to your natural pharmacopeia:

[link to www.cidrap.umn.edu]

Researchers who studied lung tissue samples from 50 people who died of pandemic H1N1 (pH1N1) influenza infections in 2009 say they found clear evidence that the intense immune response known as a cytokine storm played a role in their demise

[link to www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]

However, enough evidence exists to suggest that the cannabinoid system significantly impacts the functioning of the cytokine network, and this association may provide clues to the mechanisms of certain immune diseases and form the basis for new immunotherapies.

[link to www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov]

The evaluation of the biological consequences of these drug-induced cytokine changes has also dramatically become important considering not only the impact of cytokines on immune system per se but also envisaging their influence in cancer, inflammation, autoimmune disease, brain injury, hematopoietic colony formation in which cannabinoids have demonstrated a clear role as important modulators

Vaporizing works quickly for lung congestion, and tea is safest for children.

The flu shot will not protect you from this flu. It will actually make you more likely to get it and to die from it! The CDC even admitted that. The CDC missing the flu strain has become an annual ritual. Most years is the flu shot is worthless and it's alway dangerous. The vaccine has killed more people, over the years, than it has saved. When they miss a potential pandemic variety, they actually disable your body's defenses, making you more likely to get it. That is what happened this year. Getting vaccine less than 2 days before exposure is also very dangerous. You will have no defense from the vaccine for a couple of days.
Hope for the best, but prepare for the worst.

I do know why Texas has more flu than any state , in Mt the shot was free I just paid 60.00 for both of us so can see why many do not get it

We have a large population in Texas. I guess better way is to look at the ratio. Like 57 per 1000 or something like that.

If anyone decides to get The Jab, please do one simple thing. Ask the Country of Origin and verify it.

Influenza vaccines may be imported from China and India again this year. If it's not labeled Made in USA or Made in Canada, reconsider.

I'm not saying the doses from China/India are inferior. 2007/2008/2009 had an uptick of side-effects directly related to the carrier bases. The side-effects were written up as "flu-like symptoms post injection". The clinic I worked with thought the carrier bases had suffered freeze/thaw cycles during transport...and possibly degraded the batches.

Because of my travels, I took The Jab from 1969 to 2007. No more for me...if I aint built up immunity or resistance I aint never gonna LoL

Goofy, hope you and yours fare well; and everyone living in areas where influenza is rearing it's ugly head.

When I googled for some info to see if being exposed to H1N1 gives you some protection from this year and came across that Spanish Flu was also H1N1 which I don't ever recall hearing about it.

"Not since the Black Death of the 14th century had the world seen an epidemic like the 1918 flu, which killed 675,000 people in this country, and 43,000 United States servicemen. About half of the deaths of United States servicemen in World War I were caused not by battle but by the flu. Young healthy people would fall ill and die within a few days."

Re: H1N1 kills 6 people, leaves 14 critically ill in Greater Houston area
All you talking about getting flu shot wake up! Any strain in the shot is not the new strain that is being talked about! Besides there's no proof the shots work. Nothing conclusive, only people saying they didn't get sick this year cuz they got the shot. Well plenty of people who don't get the shot don't get sick either!
If you are healthy stop worrying, you'll live and be stronger fortified you get the flu.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 2234637

But, all the people hospitalized with this strain did NOT have a flu shot.

And all were ages 41-65. That should be alarming. It's the elderly (over 65) and children and those with compromised immune systems that are offered the flu shot -- not usually healthy adults.

A lot of people die every year during flu season but vast majority are elderly. I.e., over age 65....

I dunno. I was offered a flu shot two months ago and turned it down. Now re-thinking this.

 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 49888057

Still not proof. Not enough sick to prove any good from the flu shot. Also for all we know there are others with a less severe case of this and going uncounted. Need more data before I'd get jabbed, a lot more!

I read, years ago, a study about how a mismatched flu vaccine can actually make you less able to fight off the flu as your body will mount a defense against the strain from the shot and produce less antibodies against the strain you are sick with.

I wish I had a link to that, maybe someone here does.

Have you looked into Asafoetida? Onion was the traditional substitute for fumigation when they could not get Asafoetida.

One reason Texas may seem to have more flu is that Texas has a better state health care system and more accurate reporting than many states. Its also a border state, so they are supposed to be more wary.

There could be even more flu in your state, going unreported. People could be lying dead of the flu all over Southeastern North Carolina and somebody might notice by spring.

I'm not trying to fear-monger. Why the hell would they dig up and reconstruct such a deadly bug?? This world has gone mad. I posted this because the 1918 variety was a subtype of the H1N1. You know what I'm thinking.

"Flu epidemic of 1918 infected 500 million people across the world, including remote Pacific islands and the Arctic, and killed 50 to 100 million of them—3 to 5 percent of the world's population —making it one of the deadliest natural disasters in human history....An effort to recreate the 1918 flu strain (a subtype of avian strain H1N1) was a collaboration among the Armed Forces Institute of Pathology, Southeast Poultry Research Laboratory and Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York City. The effort resulted in the announcement (on 5 October 2005) that the group had successfully determined the virus's genetic sequence, using historic tissue samples recovered by pathologist Johan Hultin from a female flu victim buried in the Alaskan permafrost and samples preserved from American soldiers."
[link to en.wikipedia.org]

"Scientists at the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention have successfully reconstructed the influenza virus strain responsible for the 1918 pandemic, a project that greatly advances preparedness efforts for the next pandemic. This groundbreaking research helps unlock the mystery of the 1918 flu pandemic and is critically important in our efforts to prepare for pandemic influenza,” said CDC Director Dr. Julie Gerberding. “We need to know much more about pandemic influenza viruses. Research such as this helps us understand what makes some influenza viruses more harmful than others. It also provides us information that may help us identify, early on, influenza viruses that could cause a pandemic....“By identifying the characteristics that made the 1918 influenza virus so harmful, we have information that will help us develop new vaccines and treatments,” said Dr. Terrence Tumpey, the CDC senior microbiologist who recreated the virus. “Influenza viruses are constantly evolving, and that means our science needs to evolve if we want to protect as many people as possible from pandemic influenza.””

In the little tray where you would put Vicks.

From modern studies we know that onions have antibiotic and anti-inflammatory properties. It has also been found useful as a diuretic and as an effective expectorant (this would make it helpful for fighting coughs, colds and flu bugs)tor site’s many sulfur compounds are responsible, not only for their wonderful smell and irritation to eyes, but also for their powerful antimicrobial properties that effectively battle numerous bacteria, including subtilis, salmonella, and E. coli.
[link to www.offthegridnews.com]

The sulfur releases are why it's effective in the humidifier AGAINST the virus plus you get the benefits as well. And yes, zeno this flu could be much more widespread before they get a grip on it. That's why I'm worried as hell. I live with my mother who likely wouldn't survive or would definitely have a very hard time with it. She already has lung issues from a lifetime of asthma.

Re: H1N1 kills 6 people, leaves 14 critically ill in Greater Houston area
Technically I'm in the outskirts of Harris Co. but I know of at least 10 people who have contracted the flu in the past month. I know someone somewhere mentioned pneumonia, but I can't recall the details.

My immune system is really weakened from my RA, I get sick easily and it really hits me extremely hard. I am seriously thinking of wearing a face mask, but I wish people who are sick would stay the hell home.

Please keep posting home remedies like the onion and garlic stuff, if possible.

I read, years ago, a study about how a mismatched flu vaccine can actually make you less able to fight off the flu as your body will mount a defense against the strain from the shot and produce less antibodies against the strain you are sick with.

I wish I had a link to that, maybe someone here does.

Look through the threads by Emerald Eye. I think she did one on the flu. She brings a real medical back ground, and common sense to any thread. I haven't seen her on here lately, but I'm sure she is still lurking. Her threads are all backed by research, and she usually gives links.
Hope for the best, but prepare for the worst.

Re: H1N1 kills 6 people, leaves 14 critically ill in Greater Houston area
Had a patient admitted today with acute respiratory failure. His mother found him in the middle of the night with severe shortness of breath. Two days ago he was having cold like symptoms. 52 years old. He has multiple health issues, his mother is his caregiver. His lungs looked crappy on xray and they were swabbing him for the flu. He was placed on a ventilator. Might or might not be the swine flu. I live in Dallas. Be ready!

Good place to follow the H1N1 problem:
