They probably flew south away from the Cold Air the Polar Vortex is bringing down.

they will eat the sunflower seeds though

birds can tell a lot more than we can. I tried feeding birds soy because of the protein content and they rejected it.

I saw them in late fall. I think they are probably in south Florida and Louisiana.

I give birds the leftover seeds from rabbit food. they love it. (rabbits in the wild rarely eat seeds, but speciality pet food companies put seeds in the food. bunny eats all but seeds so I give seeds to the birds. birds are delighted.)

Re: bird watchers, what happened to all the Titmice ?
I live in KY and I have seen a couple of them. Unfortunately I have a mockingbird chasing all the other birds away. angry

I find it weird though that I haven't seen any of the birds I usually get in the winter like the juncos or wrens.

Re: bird watchers, what happened to all the Titmice ?
my bird observations this year are limited to my mom's question:
have you seen a cardinal lately?

I saw them often, but not right now or past few weeks.

why would a cardinal try to fly into a window repeatedly, anyway?

Fellow bird lovers, this cardinal did that repeatedly over several Sundays. A male trying to enter a church.

I have a feeder with black oil sunflower seed-I've seen a few titmice at it the past few days, along with a ton of juncos, some finches, and some cardinals, male and female. Also, a downy woodpecker eats at the suet feeder I have up, too. Northeast Pa., here.

thanks, they are a favorite bird, state bird of Ohio because they stick around for the winters.

Still wondering what that window-crasher was doing.

That's very interesting. When I was younger I had a bunch of birdfeeders out for all sorts of birds and they ate all sorts of seeds. Now I wonder if they'll reject some of it bc the ingredients have surely changed since I was a kid.

Titmice are still here in VA. Cardinals never left but oddly have seen no juncos at all. Just got a foot of snow and put some food out, will let you know if any new birds show up.

I've also had seed that had weevils hatch out of the seed. Don't buy cheap seed, the birds know the difference.
