When settling down people are going too take a serious look at future state/local pension obligations. So what happens when people choose to not move someplace or move far away from places with unsustainable pension obligations ? |

VeraFromChorley User ID: 55890429 United Kingdom 03/21/2014 07:26 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | In my 25-26 years of work, never been out of work, only a few weeks in all that time. I have had hard physical jobs, 2 years french polisher/piano restorer, humping pianos about all day and repetative french polishing, puts strain on your arms. About 13 years as a cleaner, cleaning is one of the most back breaking jobs, if you do it right, and take pride in it. That buggered all my joints up, got arthritis already, I am 43. Had to pack in cleaning, my body could not do it any more. So for the last 9 years I have been a care assistant, but my body is just getting more buggered by the day, in agony with all my joints, but I soldier on, doing things that murder me, but have to because I have to earn a living. I for one will not kill myself for the next 20+ years till the age of retirement. I intend to have some sort of accident with a garden implement or something, put myself on disability. It is either that, or by the time I am due retirement, I will be that knackered, ill and unfit, to appreciate it. P.S. all my family have arthritis, osteo etc, it runs in the family, and most have popped it in the 70's. |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 55899868 People did not want these jobs 30 years ago. Now they are jealous. That's fucked up. Here the retirement age is 68, but soon it will be raised to 70 since the average lifespan has increased. Unless you've got a serious physical/mental problem, you should not be allowed to retire at 50. That which can be asserted without evidence, can be dismissed without evidence. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 55528941 United States 03/21/2014 03:09 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I know people retiring and collecting state pensions as young as 50. Is that wrong? Quoting: Anonymous Coward 55899868 People did not want these jobs 30 years ago. Now they are jealous. The tradeoff in years past was security vs money. You could work for GM and make more money than being a cop, fireman, teacher and you didn't need a college degree(teachers). the other side was the govt. employees didn't get layed off, had good bennies and a retirement. No IRAs, 401k etc. Then the govt. folks decided they wanted more and more and they wanted the higher private sector salary and the govt. sector bennies and no one said no. Is it wrong ? When the economy is humming along and things are going great these benefits can be paid for with tax increases on workers growing salary and goes little noticed. When the economy turns south and less workers salaries to tax, you must tax the still working who make have had salary cuts and now you must tax them higher on a smaller income. Or you cut the benefits to the current govt workers and retirees. No one seems willing to accept either so of course it's wrong. |
darkwolf007 User ID: 33855023 United States 03/21/2014 03:13 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | A friend of mine got turned down for a job because he's over 35. He's 38. If you're washed up at 35, watcha gonna do? I've spent many years looking for jobs. It's absolutely soul crushing when you actually go out looking for jobs, putting in dozen or more jobs that are actually hiring and they make it clear that their standards are pretty low and you don't even get a job interview even when you call almost every day to let them know that you're still available. I've even been threatened at least twice by potential employers to have the cops called on me for doing just that. Life's a living hell. It will NEVER get any better for the vast majority of us. Life will only worsen daily for the vast majority of us. It's sad but true. I've been trying to figure out for the last year or so if it's really a hidden blessing for me to confirm being disabled or if it's really just more hellish bullshit piled onto my already dismal life. I haven't the slightest idea that there are lots of people in the same boat, but different row or even the same row as me. Seeing as this country's close to imploding and whatever horrible bullshit, I say we ought to try to enjoy ourselves while making preparations for the inevitable. There's no point in trying to strive for a good happy life in a country where even the cops will hunt you down specifically for trying to be a good slave, and destroy you and your family. Protect, and love those who you want and care for. For many of us have noone nor nothing else else that really matters because of what TPTB have done to us one way or another. Conspiracy Theorist is nothing more than a derogatory title used to dismiss a critical thinker. A time is coming when men will go mad, and when they see someone who is not mad, they will attack him, saying, 'You are mad; you are not like us." -- St. Anthony The Great Social Credit Loser here. |

It's funny how many fools piss their money away then bitch and moan how they're broke. Duh. I never had tv. Rarely ate out. Drank on a budget. Distiller my own vodka. Etc. Gotta be smart. By 50 I'll easily be able to retire. Bought GOOD used cars. Retards splurge on new cars and huge ass homes. Usually women's decisions keep a man from retiring early. Women have no understanding of money. Just selfish greed. |
