He'd get out of the car and in his booming voice yell to me..."Go fill up my bottles!" He preferred my dad's well water to the city water in his home. Seems like another lifetime ago. ------ |

I wondered what it was like to experience the technological advances. Cars got bigger and faster. Air travel became more common place. Television. Space travel. Artificial hearts. Computers. They remembered what it was like before all that. 5* OP and thank you. "There are nights when the wolves are silent and only the moon howls." ~ George Carlin |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 56752675 Canada 04/24/2014 06:11 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | When my husband worked in downtown Denver there was a particularly darling little old man who would dress up in his military outfit and go sit where the business men would eat their lunches outside in the summer. My husband would buy this little old guy an ice tea or whatnot and sit and eat lunch with him and ask him about his life. He talked of the wars he served in - and my husband said you could tell how proud he was to have served. He talked about the women he loved, what the city was like in the old days, etc... My husband just loved it and so did the little guy. You could tell he was lonely. Same here. My parents aren't that elderly yet, but they are older and I always hope that there are people watching out for them. I never had grandparents of my own, but I have adopted a few. :) |

He lives in downtown phx and I swear he will get himself killed. He walks down his dark alley to take out the trash and yells at the drug dealers dealing. Thank God he's moving to rural Washington in a few weeks! Mackenzie River bound |

Was it ice that they cut off a lake, Old Timer? Cool book to read "The Frozen Water Trade" about the international trade in ice from New England lakes and the technology they developed to do such a thing long before any kind of mechanical or chemical refrigeration. |

I envy the people that lived in the 20's, 40's and 60's their soundtrack. If you want the soundtrack of the 20s, 30s, 40s, and even some before that, try this station broadcasting from the Spark Museum of Electrical Invention (formerly the American Museum of Radio and Electricity): KMRE-LP Listen live on the internet, it does tell who the artist is for each song as it comes up: [link to www.kmre.org] Sometimes they are spinning 78s, they even play wax cylinder recordings sometimes. In the daytime it is mostly music, in the evening they have radio theater from the old days. |

They went from horse drawn vehicles as the norm to moon landings and beyond. I think they coped with the meteoric changes so well. Ducks to water. One thing that really helped was that they were both very into learning and had endless curiosity about everything. |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 57269695 Cool. I've read old newspapers around the turn of the century when the automobile was invented. It was interesting to see people say that the horse was still better basically because if the buggy driver passed out, the horse would find his way home, where the automobile would end up in a ditch, or hitting a tree....
