I think your hands can be made to "jerk" on a steering wheel, possibly causing an accident. Not sure though that your legs can be literally taken over. You'd still be able to fight it I think (and certainly hope). On the other hand, you can be made to want to commit suicide by inducing the EEG patterns of suicidal people into the brain. Not sure that it works every time, but they've probably gotten pretty damn good at remotely inducing suicide, which is just homicide by another name in my book. |

Traditional algorithm development is just multi conditional branching. Simple enough to undo if you can shut down the application or be sure the condition is ultimately satisfied. But there have been new methodologies in software that allows the system to learn from past performance to establish new conditions for action... all on its own. Although this sounds like ai, its not. What it is will exhibit *some* of the qualities of ai in that it will not be fooled by the same mistake twice because it recorded the loss and its relevant precursor and variables. It also keeps a running list of things not to try again and iterates each item on the record before acting on new conditions. You will find this in chess subroutines. Its not *smart* per se, it cant formulate a completely new and left field tactic on its own using no previous interaction, like a human can. But the the result is a machine that is adapting and getting better with each roll of the dice. The problem being, the original developer did not hard code strict behavior into the system, rather they built a system that can take the current data and establish new criteria on which to act based on its experiences. So the developers have no idea how it will respond without carefully reviewing all the conditions it has generated for itself. The solution would be to unplug it. But since everybody else has also been building along similar lines, it could trigger a massive distributed race condition, or as engineers like to call a feedback loop, with the results rippling across every system as each tries to react to the others, based on their owne learned conditions. In essence, a race to the bottom, increasing exponentially until cascade failure (processor or network saturation) or everybody is broke. Sounds reasonable to me... wow.  |
