She and Rick had a great time in NYC! Saw and did everything I would have recommended. Yay! She said the time went too fast! Thank you nutmeg and everyone else for the birthday wishes! I had a GREAT birthday! We got home from NYC Friday morning a 3 AM, so late because of flight delays in Chicago due to a fire they had at the air traffic control tower the day before apparently. We packed a lot into our trip because of the short time, Sun-Thurs. Have to tell you one story, we got scammed within the first hour and a half in New York! We threw our bags in our room and went for a walk right away when we got there. Our plan was to go find a restaurant and we ran into a bunch of NY Ranger fans wearing jersey's heading to Madison square gardens for the game that was to start at 7:30. Rick asked them if there was any chance for us to get tickets to the game and they said it was probably sold out but we might be able to through a scalper by the stadium. So we walked to it and looked around the crowd. Some guy (black guy of course) came up to us and said to follow him to the subway under the Gardens because a friend of his had some tickets. We did reluctantly and Rick had to go into the bathroom to buy these tickets from his friend for 400 US. We went back up an entered the Gardens, when the tickets were scanned, we were told they were counterfeit. Of course I started to cry a bit, and some guys behind us in line came up to us and got out of line to help us. The looked online on their phones and found out there were still some tickets available right at the Gardens. They brought us to where we could buy them, another 400 though, but they were legit and we all went back and went in. So yes, we went to the game, it was awesome! but cost us 800. So we saw the worst of NYC and the best of it in our first few hours (people wise). The rest of the trip was great, but we wouldn't buy anything from anyone on the street, costly lesson learned right off the bat. |

Unfortunately you were scammed. :( What a bummer. Yes, there are good and bad everywhere. Last time I was in Rome for a few days, I talked with three people who were robbed...wallets/purses taken. One time in Paris, my daughter and I approached the subway turnstiles, and a British woman just had her purse taken...passport, money, and all! She was frantic! It happens everywhere, and for as many times I've been to NYC over the past 20 years, it's never happened to me or my family. A guy friend was going up the stairs out of the subway when someone reached into his suit pants pocket and took his Tiffany billfold money clip (a sentamental gift) along with his $300+. I'm going to China next week and have to be careful. One time I was there, someone gave me a counterfeit bill (yuan) in change (worth $7.00), so I didn't lose much, but was really surprised to find out when I went to make a purchase and the woman screamed at me. lol As if I knew it was counterfeit.
