Whoa whoa back up. Beep. Beep.

Radiotrophic fungus use melanin to convert gamma radiation?
Melanin absorbs gamma frequencies?

So from that can we assume those with more melanin (in their skin) are more susceptible to gamma radiation?

 Quoting: Lex 48671817

radiation technically is NOT absorbed by anything.. it is a free radical.. and continues to be so until absorbed into a similarly unstable element.. that equates to normalcy.. "half life" is nothing more than "best guess science".. simple science....
 Quoting: Citizenperth

Yes, that was the question.
However if the fungus receives energy from gamma wavelengths using melanin as a mediator, then there must be a quanta change via absorption of that wavelength. Gamma radiation has absorption, reflection, emission, and transmission coefficients for a given material just like the rest of the spectrum. Gamma rays have optical properties, because gamma is light.

That means melanin is also an effective Emitter of gamma radiation, given E + R + T = 1 and A = E.
This is very strange, as I would not have suspected melanin had the necessary shells to absorb such a high frequency - as it is not a "similarly unstable element".
This would be easy to test - if it heats up, it is absorbing. Might be a good organic radiation shielding, or a bizarre way to make carbs on your spaceship using your reactor shielding.

Don't get technical with the word absorb, corporeal life never stops its entanglement/absortion 24/7...earth absorbs solar energies.

1993: • At a December news conference, announcement is made of the nation’s first economic conversion project at a DOE facility – the announcement is made by Governor Romer’s office
and DOE in cooperation with the CDH and the EPA. The pilot project at Rocky Flats would clean and transition buildings for use by a private, industrial manufacturer to recycle
contaminated scrap metals.

it's called the LeClaire Effect, it can greatly reduce the half lives of currently radioactive material. Some products will lose their radioactivity after just 6 hours. Some may take a little longer but a LOT less than the 40+ years it takes naturally.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 59137586

They are NOT using the LeClair Effect or technique on these incidences…
According to this report, it is NOT a one off incident either!
[link to www.knoxnews.com]
The cases are compiled in the NRC's national Nuclear Material Events Database, a little-known library of 18,740 radioactive-material incidents nationwide, the vast majority since 1990.

While the LeClair Effect might work in mass scale, or for future applications,
I am sure it also depend on the TYPE of isotopes too.
Colbalt, Strontium, Americium, Cesium…..etc… [link to nanospireinc.com (secure)]

Did you even listen to the video........maybe you need to listen again.

The research proposal is how to recycle precious metals from radioactive material. Not how to incorporated radioactive material into your stainless steel.

It would be great to be able to re-use the already refined gold, silver, platinum that now exist in radioactively contaminated areas. Think of all the materials in the abandoned towns and cities. Think of the materials buried under the tsunami debris. They could mine all this for quite a while.

Yes, I did……let me sum it up for you..……

One group wants to receive Government money, to develop a way to extract 'rare' metal, from highly radioactive waste AND PROFIT FROM IT!

They are going to recycle the metal…..

What do you think they are going to do with the waste????

RECYCLE IT!

Please do and report it here. Talk about depopulation...they are literally overwhelming us with radiation.

This should be illegal. I wonder just how many people understand this. I had no idea it was happening right before our eyes...literally.
