Boil until sugar is completely dissolved. Refrigerate 2 hours. Add to feeder. Wash feeder and change water every other day. Only wash feeder with hot water. No solvents. Do not color water. |

Quoting: Pamelaantoinette That's the recipe I follow too....I think I got it from their site as well. I refill both of the feeders at least twice a day and wash them out with hot tap water followed by a rinse from the filtered side each time. No chlorine residue and nothing but plain granulated C&H sugar and filtered water,...no dye ever. They eat a lot of bugs around the property which is really nice as well. Some people have been concerned that feeders are bad for the birds but everything I have read has not backed this up. I live in the "breadbasket" of CA and am surrounded by massive fields of almonds, grapes, apple, cherry, and peach trees....and many flowering plants....based on the poop they leave under the feeders there not on a liquid only diet. |

Quoting: Carpet Gnome It's pointed at some of the trees the birds use while waiting for their time at the feeder. What state is this - where the hell did all the hbirds come from???? u #1 I live in the central part of California right in the middle of a major agricultural area, (about 1.5 hours east of San Francisco). I have been diligent about keeping the feeders clean and full....was filling one feeder up once every three days or so,...now filling up two feeders twice a day...with about 30+ birds. Some of the birds you can see in the camera, but there's a lot more flying around the yard. |

I may want to try this for the hootie owl that lives in the trees behind my shack. There are many different way to skin this cat but here's my setup: Streaming service - Ustream Camera - Axis Q1604 IP camera, (demo cam used for business) Network - Trendnet POE switch 8 port Dedicated Computer - Dell Optiplex 9010 I have Adobe Flash Media Live Encoder running on the Dell which is connected to our network. The Adobe FMLE pulls the feed from the camera and sends it directly to the Ustream server(s). I am a techie so I enjoy making things more complicated than they need be......what's the phrase....If it ain't broken, fix it till it is. |

Quoting: Pamelaantoinette sugar water kills them instead cut grapefruits into halves and tack them onto wood framework that they can drink out of the fruit also the grapefruit attracts bugs that the humming birds can eat mixing granulated sugar with water and feeding it to them is widespread practice, but wrong and does not strengthen the birds - it weakens them |
