Nice video with good music that I thought was Enya too till I read the last part of your thread. Thanks OP. Thank you. I wonder how long they will stay around here? I know that they migrate south but some will stay in CA even after it gets cold....well at least towards the coast. |

Before it started getting dark I needed to refill the feeder...they sure are hungry. This is just for fun and found that it brought a smile to my face and hopefully yours as well. Quoting: Carpet Gnome The music reminds my of Enya. Wow, what a great video! Thanks for sharing OP. We've never had a feeder emptied in a week, never mind in 10 hours! That's a hungry bunch you have there! |

That's a hungry bunch you have there! :heart rock: We sit in the middle of huge almond orchards,...well more than that,..we have apples, peaches, cherries...a lot of sources of natural nectar,...but I never imagined that there were so many out hummingbirds out here. I just ordered 2 one gallon feeders, (ridiculous I know), so I can leave the house for a few days |
Anonymous Coward (OP) User ID: 30853545 United States 08/26/2014 12:33 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | HI gnome Quoting: Astral Goat I have a feeder on my deck door so they can come right up to the glass and feed so far, they haven't I had to move the feeders away from my house in the very beginning and I read that they like to be able to see 360 degrees around them,...so I hung both feeders way up in the air and one is actually suspended on a wooden pole, (the one in the video), about 10 feet off the ground. They seem to like that the most,...they sit in the trees out of the focus of the camera and dive bomb one another,...and poop on me if they get the chance. |

I stood for a long time, very still to get this shot...they only give you a few seconds,..then they zip off. What kind of vid cam do you use to capture? BirdCam Pro? It's actually a video surveillance camera, (Axis Q1604), that I use for demonstration purposes, but re-tasked it do some light/fun work. This is the kind of camera you might see watching a big parking lot or at a bank normally. It's IP based so I tied it into my home network and wanted to see what it could do,...one of the best "toys" I've ever purchased. |

Otherwise I'd normally be going through a lot of sugar myself at this time of year. I also use C&H from Costco because it's cane sugar and I read somewhere that cane is best for the birds. |

Would be even cooler, if maybe next time you freeze frame on certain shots for a few seconds. Then we can see more detail on these beauties. That said, I think you have a bigger concern...
