How patriotism leads to totalitarianism
Everybody is proud of their country... even to the point of lying to themselves, and lying to others about the achievements of their country, the living conditions of their country, the capacities of their country...

This can easily evolve into totalitarianism, and under
Murphy's law, therefore WILL evolve into totalitarianism because it CAN.

Abusive foreign policies, Abusive internal laws and policies, propaganda and racketeering to achieve the leverage to create abusive laws and foreign policies etc..

What can propaganda achieve ?

Absolutely anything, without question, without boundaries, without borders, without passion or prejudice, without doubt, without rules and without direction or order..

Propaganda can achieve anything whatsoever, period.. and Propaganda has been used to achieve everything, from widespread racism, to the holocaust, to North Korea's 3 generations of dictators, to communism in Vietnam and Cuba, China and Russia..

Even real wars that are well founded and needed, like world war 1 and 2.

They all used 1 thing...

Propaganda.

What else does propaganda achieve ? patriotism and to any extent that is desired by the propagandist.

Patriotism is healthy, its the survival of a country.

But in its extreme, its also the death of others, as well as the loss of freedom, any that exists in your country.

Patriotism is also the other driving force that created the situation in North Korea.
:)

To patriotism is a dangerous thing, as dangerous as anything taken to extreme.

Restore the Republic.

Thread: The Bill of Rights does NOT include age requirements!

It's a flower, not something to be feared.

Re: How patriotism leads to totalitarianism
It's the other way around: totalitarianism promotes patriotism. Patriotism is natural in a homogeneous national country, but it's an artificial concept in multiethnic, multiconfessional countries, like Russia for instance. That's why Russians were always looking for dictators, and that's why even the communist dictators, like Stalin, used the Church as an ally to promote the unity of the population.

Patriotism or nationalism?

Our democracy is falling like the Athenian democracy did.

It must be tempered with; Justice, Wisdom, Courage & Moderation.
