When we were kids, my younger sister and myself sometimes used to go round picking up used chewing gum off the floor and chewing it ourselves. Don't ask me why. We were just a bit stupid, I suppose.

Dropped a blade steak on a filthy deck once in front of everybody...Hours of drinks spilled and some puke.I picked it up and ate within the 5r second rule.

I will pick a carrot or radish right out of the ground. wipe off the dirt and eat it. I eat fruit and vegetables strait from the vine.
Yet if food falls on the floor if I cannot bare to waste it I rinse it off before I eat it. Simply because I hate eating gritty food.

But I had to brush away the flies that started to collect around my fries.

Yep ....theres so much stigma these days about total cleanliness etc , hardly ever get sick/ill ...these people that are scared shitless to eat rough ,will be the first to get sick when SHTF , same as the folks who are forever taking antibiotics for every little thing ...avoid the docs for everyday sickness/colds etc ....

Yes, if I am quick 5-10 seconds. If it looks dirty wipe or wash dirt off. As someone said, eating with hands is great.
