OK, I was a journalism student in the late 1960's, editor of my school paper, then editor of several other papers over the years and now retired, and remember the "no-no's" to avoid - words like "really" and phrases like "I believe" (about the former word, Mark Twain said, "substitute the word "damn" and your editor will delete it and your sentence will look just as it should"). Anyway, it's getting to the point where you can't scan more than a couple GLP threads, and the same with all the other alternative media/conspiracy websites, without bill-board-tactic displays of the above acronyms. Does anybody think that your point can be communicated at least as well, if not better, without them?

all I'm saying is what Gandhi said to the Jews under Hitler ("achieve a moral victory" over the Nazis by letting them slaughter you). OK, so TPTB (I approve of that acronym, used sparingly) want to wipe you out with HAARP-droughts, pandemics, false-flag nukes, poisoned foods, and if all else fails, foreign troops enforcing martial law, but maintain your morals and egalitarianism - as you are placed on the guillotine or coughing the last of your guts out, be polite. The English language can accommodate all this without resorting to profanity, even in the form of overused acronyms.

Negative.

Journalism is dead, let alone what the ordinary person posts online. They are only mimicking the advertisement tactics they see and hear on a daily basis, many don't know any different.

I read articles online everyday on mainstream web sites with spelling and grammar errors, sometimes in the headlines!

The defenders of the English language are a dying breed and within a decade you shall see Newspeak as the common form of communication.

Good night intellectual conversation, sleep well sweet prince.

I'll bet there were people who loathed the use of contractions when they were new. You're complaining about acronyms, which have been around for about a hundred years.

Acronyms communicate a lot...quickly, so they're very useful to my reading and comprehension skills.

Re: is anybody getting tired of reading "SHTF". "WTF" "WTH", etc.?
I am sick of it. All the kids and the recent generations are too lazy to properly utilize the language. What happened to vernacular being indicative of intelligence? Now everyone writes with acronyms and substitutions that bear little resemblance to the original meanings of the words. Slang, sarcasm and insinuation has mutated words into flimsy forms of their former powerful selves. The phones, texting, the keypads were somewhat to blame, but for the most part it is the laziness of people and too much coddling of the children, allowing their lazy approaches rushed and hurried in their youth, to spill the cup of valuable speech over. I do not weep for the children, they brought it all upon themselves. They deserve every result of their short-cutting ways that are now taking root.

Oh yeah. I guess most of this is just a texting carryover into the real world.

And people are even too lazy to capitalize words. Abbreviating is what caused the whole Y2K problem. People even use abbreviations on their resumes; and maybe that's why they never hear back, because when I worked in "HR" any resume with abbreviations went directly into the trash.
