Get a Big Dog.

Rottweilers are great, Shepherds too. A breed that is trusty and friendly w/family, but puts fear of God in strangers.

Really; get a dog. Dog watches your back and is always dependable. Man may come into your life, but right away you can Depend on the dog...

Maybe two dogs... A small terrier for inside your house. They have better hearing than any big dog and hearts like a lion. Secret Weapon!

I'm 55 female, I don't think I would want a heavy footed man around me when i am hiding out.

Don't get me wrong, I love men, married forever now but my Dad (wanting a boy) only had me to train in hunting and shooting. Walking through fall leaves without making much noise is not something most men do, hell most of them never look at their fat feet and will easily kick something over or step on thing just laying around the house.

The only thing I could see a man useful for in the wilderness is sex, and most of them suck at that too.

If I need to hoist a large kill that is what pulleys are for.

As a matter of fact, a timid weaker female would make a better prep buddy.
They would eat less than a man, and if I needed to get a bear of a horde of zombies off my back, she would be easier to trip :)

Being a single woman, the dog thing is covered. Have a lab/shar pei mix.....lab provides the size, shar pei provides the protection.
