there's no way he tested negative yet since it takes at least one day to take a sample, send it out to get tested and receive the results.

PCR takes hours plus second specimen goes to CDC for two target PCR, taking longer due to travel. This is not a closed book yet. Plus the viral load can take 72 hours AFTER symptoms to reach a detectable level.
