Well, in some cultures it's acceptable for Women to get married at 13 and 14 years old. In India, children can get married at 9, and have a civil ceremony at 16.

It's only "Repressed" Christianity/American Society that places the 18+ restrictions on girls getting married.

Because the more enlightened Western societies realize that no 9-12 year old girl WANTS to marry or be sexually penetrated by a 40 year old man. Only men are capable of such stupid thinking. And to protect these young girls from being forced to marry against their will, by parents and other relatives, American society has told old men not to have sexual relations with young girls. If the little girls had some great demand to have sex with old men, I'm sure they could eventually collectively talk their parents into getting the laws changed. But funny thing, they're not clamoring for that, are they.
