If the radiation is so high that the patient gets internal bleeding or even skin reactions, vomits soon after onset, then the patient is doomed to death. There is no chance to survive it even with proper treatment, i.e. 100% death rate. Sorry, OP! |

Exactly..... where the cascade begins in altitude and how how energetic the nature of original cosmic rays determines the dosage. It can be acute and cause quick death if a very high energy particle, say 10^19, begins a cascade just above your head. Or, it could be a slow, low dose exposure if the cascade begins far overhead or the original particle was of lower energy. So, it would be highly variable.... |

The particles spread out. It's a cascade... It would depend upon where the cascade began and the energy of the initial particle. There would also no infection of the Spanish nurse if that would be ARS (acute radiation sickness). No chance. One cannot get the radiation from an other person.
