The "Beast" computer in Belgium | |
Sleeping One (OP) User ID: 64251425 Belgium 10/20/2014 02:33 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Maybe you found, at one time or other, some statement on the internet about a "Beast" computer in Belgium. I read that too somewhere, a few years ago. Quoting: Sleeping One 64251425 And somewhere else it was denied and called an "urban myth". But I just found the apparent origin of this claim, whether it is true or not is hard to say without more info. But it appears in actual fact to be almost 40 years old as it was put on the internet in 1976. That's to say, it was published somewhere anyway, not put on the internet of course. |

It maybe it is in the underground like CERN is. The countries in the world take money that should go to help people, and they run these things in the name of science. Daughter out with my own way. |

So it's just an acronym ? The connection to "the beast" might be pure speculation ? Where do you have your info from ? This is no computer used for scienific projects, it's the banking system. |

Research the Minitel network and Belgacom for European links. The US also had a videotex service that was developed by Knight Ridder and AT&T. They introduced the Sceptre terminal (aka Viewtron terminal). The Canadians also had a videotex network. They all served the financial world and were networked together using standards that predate the Internet as we know it. The communication standard is known as NAPLPS. One largely unknown fact is that Knight Ridder developed a tablet computer in the 1990s that looks very similar to the iPad. It was decades ahead of its time. Knight Ridder had R&D that was very advanced; they were bought out for large sums of money. |
