Being blind in one eye is NOT disabled. Me thinks OP is just salty he never bothered to hold down a job in his entire life, nor did he ever bother to take care of his diabetes and now he complains that he's "disabled" because he doesn't have depth perception.

Yeah, it sucks to have one eye. But it doesn't excuse someone for not having ever worked in the past. I know people that made $12/hr and only worked 10 years in their entire lifetime that make more on SS than OP is claiming.

You have to have worked on the books to receive benefits. Did you think that just because you turned the magical age of 65 that you are handed a living? No. You (and me) have to pay into the system to receive benefits later in life. The amount you are awarded is a percentage directly proportional to the amount you and your employers paid in.

You can try to blame previous employers if you want, but it's really your responsibility to make sure that your earnings are reported properly each year. That is why the SSA sends out those statements in the first place - for you to verify.

It seems that you want to blame others for your lot in life. What I see is a person who maybe worked, but didn't pay taxes. I'm guessing that most of your wages were "under the table". Well, that doesn't count.

It's amazing what an attitude of gratitude will get you. AT LEAST you have the van and AT LEAST you're in a warm state. I know people in worse conditions. There are always people worse off than you. THINGS COULD ALWAYS BE WORSE.

Thirdly, you obviously have internet access and you can communicate better than 85% of the people on this site. Set up a blog about homelessness and your situation and put up some Google AdSense ads and see if you can supplement your income that way. Check out textbroker.com and other "content farms" and try writing web content for a buck or two per 100 words. You could easily make $10 or $20 per day doing that. Hopefully there are one or two other people with suggestions I haven't thought of. Check out every avenue and DON'T DESPAIR. Every day, save a couple bucks, and eventually get yourself a better place to stay.

There are SOME places where you can camp legally. I'm sure if you keep researching you'll find a place.

From the information you shared on this thread, you should qualify for a government housing assistance program called Section.

In Section 8 housing apartments, the government pays about 75% of the monthly rent and you are responsible for the other 25%.

You should also qualify for utility assistance with your gas and/or electricity and water costs.

Given your eyesight, having a telephone would also likely be considered essential and you should not have to be much (if anything) to have basic phone service.

You should already be receiving free healthcare and assistance with any prescriptions.
