Either country can be very decent places in which to live out your golden years, and have programs in place so that retired people with stable income can live there legally. You can EASILY live comfortably in either country on $700/US per month. Maintain an American bank account where your funds get sent. Use occasional ATM access to draw from it when you need money.

Step 4: Beans, rice, stewed chicken, tortillas, tequila, warm sun, blue water, white sand, cheap women.

The amount of Social Security is based on work history, this determines amount of money received at retirement. It's not welfare, a person has to pay into it.

DUDE, get a lawyer who specializes in SSI disability. I'm sorry but this is what you are going to have to do.

You NEED to get a lawyer that will fight for you for a decent payment of SS or SSI. They typically downgrade or deny people's benefits, get a lawyer to make it right. It will be worth it.

I believe Op. Also he might not have been lazy. It all depends if his employer or himself paid into SSI in the first place. If you have not paid in you will not receive much. Also to be blind for SSI you have to have less then 20% corrected vision in one eye. Yep that is right. Op is right too because that does not match up with DMV standards. He probably should not be driving. Another drawback is if you vehicle is work $500 or more it is considered an asset.
Homeless do get shafted by the way. There is even property out in California about 300 acers that was set aside by a wealthy family for homeless veterans to inharrit for their care and housing. The veterans Administration was to over see its use. They gave it to property management company took it over and started leasing out the land and letting businesses build on it. Any homeless vets on the property were kicked off. It was like that for about 20 years when by accident it was rediscovered the intentions for the correct use of the property. The land and buildings were all least out and former families members sued. They were trying to get the land back. however the courts said no, but that the VA had to ensure that at least some veterans had homes there. They built a small complex there that house about 300 that's right only 300 transient homeless vets out of 300 acres. not even regular housing. The family members were pissed and so were the veterans. The VA said the proceeds could be put to better use servicing other veterans in other parts of the country/ VA system. Talk about a government rip off! Never Leave anything t the government. It will always misuse it.

I believe its around $250 and another $15.00 for you approved photo to be taken. You are going to need to travel that will cost a bit. You will need a shot record if you plan of staying. I believe Belize will not allow you to stay in their country unless you are making a minimum of $850 per month and you have $6,500 in you bank account. You are responsible for your own medical too. Great places to go if you are old and healthy.
Mexico for non-citizens/ expac I believe a higher income rate is needed. But, El Salvador is probably your next best bet. I hear its the poorest country on the western hemisphere and it has a growing economy. you might be able to start your own business. I am sure it is competitive though. It also has the worst educational system and services grade 1-6th regular Ed only. Most only go to school until 3rd or 4th grade though. You still have to pay both taxes for the US and your host country too wherever you go. Taxes are suppose to be much less though to the US. Finally, the cost of getting to these places and getting you first and last months rent will be difficult for you to save up, plus keeping it in a safe place while ding so. Most banks are a rip off for saving purposes.

My advise hold on and just keep being very kind, nicely mannered and persistent for starters. You are probably going to need to find a room mate. Start going to church. You have a better chance of finding an old widow or widower who doesn't want to live alone. If you have a kind and clean disposition chances will find someone that wants the companionship. This is a tempt start and not to be relied on. Family may cause problems if they think you are taking advantage, but it a start and might turn out to be a good permanent arrangement.

In my area you won't get SSI if you are disabled but they will give you health insurance and require you to under go any and all surgeries and medications to enable you.Then after a half a dozen surgeries that have left you worse off then you started and medications that have destroyed about all your vital organs,only THEN you might be eligible to receive a small amount of SSI.
