The wife has been wanting a shot gun. Should I get a 20 gauge or a 410?

20ga semi auto. she will love it.

First time i took my wife skeet/trap shooting she used a 20ga..

her first time firing a weapon, she hit roughly 60% of her targets.

she loves the thing, not to much kickback, but definitely enough put down power.

My wife has a 20 ga Remington youth model and loves it the 410 shells are a buck a pull for the good ones.

12 Gauge with Federal Power-Shok Low Recoil Buffered 00 Buckshot might work.

Honestly, either is a good choice. Both have merits for a female shooter.

Another thought would be a 12 guage with mild loads. This would allow her to move up to stronger shells if or when she feels ready.

Get a 20, 4:10 are for light shooting.

Go for the 20 ga.... unfortunately on your budget a semi auto (which reduces recoil) is out of the question.

It's for skeet shooting dude and she has problems with her shoulder from a car accident. She has plenty of other guns. She just wants a shotgun. And I don't really know the diff. between the 2.

12 g with a Knoxx stock

20 gauge ammo is cheaper and easier to find very managable recoil and still very effective for field use.

before anyone beats up on me for not saying 410 its a great round i like it a lot but for field use its for very very good shotgun shooters or close range or slug hunting.

If this is just for home defense for the missus I would
choose the 410 otherwise 20 gauge

unless your wife is REALLY petite - smaller than a 12 year old boy - go 12 gauge ....

definitely forget about a freaking .410 .... no decent defensive loads what-so-ever outside shooting slugs and even target loads will cripple the wallet

20g only slightly better .... Buck loads for defense aren't even on most retail shelves except for the big guys like Cabelas ... and #3 Buck is the best available in 2 3/4 shells .... and you'll pay double the cost of 12g 00 Buck

for $250 you can step up to a decent Remington or Winchester pump .... probably a youth model for your wife's smaller reach ... she can handle a 12g and thank you for it ...

imo a 20 guage...but she really shoot both before making a decision.

Nothing the average person can't handle comfortably if done right.

Imagine somebody tosses a chest pass at you with a basketball and you let it hit your shoulder. That's about as hard as it would hit you. Hold that stock an inch away from your shoulder and it will feel more like getting hit with a slapshot, no shoulder pads.

For the real pain, hold the stock against your collar bone when you pull the trigger. You'll be on the ground in tears.
