Even at .25 cents an hour robots will be cheaper. Minimum wage has nothing to do with it in my humble opinion. Robots and AI will wipe out most people on this planet which will solve the population and ecological problems worldwide over hundred and thousands of years. The U.N. has shaped their policies around this and will continue to pit people against each other to distract from the real issues and the truth. I believe your post is a result of their programming.

This is what these retards pushing for an irrational minimum wage don't stop to think about- make a low or no skill job unprofitable for an employer to offer and in most cases they will either A) eliminate it or B)automate it.

Bingo! There lies the problem. Machines/Robots will soon be able to do everything people can do and more.

If you want more money for what you do then take the time to learn how to do something that's worth more, and the beauty of it is that you'll find it's more personally satisfying than doing some monotonous chore over and over too. That's the whole point of having machines to begin with, BE CREATIVE, BE HUMAN!

Eventually this will be true. That's why I like the job I have, being a gas man. I deliver propane in various terrain and climates. Minimum wage jobs like retail and fast food will be the first to go.

It might be some time before robots can actually drive a 30 ton truck to the delivery address. Then have to climb hills and or wade through tall weeds and thick brush, and/or mud, snow or ice, all while dragging a 50+ pound hose to get to a tank.

This is actually a very good idea Brief. Of course one would also need some software knowledge as well.

I know a guy in his 60's that has been in the trucking business all his life. He has owned a number of trucking business's over the course of his life and is the most knowledgable truck mechanic I have ever met. He was one of the first business's that did roadside service 40+ years ago.. Anyway he is retired, but was sought out by the government to be part of team working on designing driverless semi's. This is already well in the works and will start with driverless cars. The car part has already been in the news a lot lately.

So, long story short, don't think your job can't be replaced. It will be one of the first to go my friend. Do your own research on this. It will likely be less than 10 years from now.

Driving there is the easy part.

Yeah, the other part would be difficult. Also, alot of propane is delivered way off the beaten path. Maybe drones will be delivering instead of trucks.

Of course some douchy hipster type who grew up with his face buried in his X-Box and iPhone will think this is a good idea....

...until the customers start going to other stores instead because they want to deal with HUMANS.

That is exactly what I would do, go to another store with humans. Unfortunately most other would not do that.

Me neither, I avoided them for a long time but a couple times I could not wait in line for 20 minutes so I had to cave in. They create long lines on purpose to get people to use them. In there are no lines, people don't usually use them.

I'd much rather deal with a robot than the window licking retards whom pass as minimum wage employees these days.

The robots will actually know how to direct me to aisle 7.

Only after they do a full body scan, iris scan, gather your information and make you listen to their short sales pitch will they actually direct you.

That's ok, these companies also realize that alot of their profits are derived from the underclass, whom they will be putting out of business. There has been alot of discussion in the fast food community over whether or not there would be a backlash from the poor against fast food if they were to replace cashiers with atm/credit swipers, order takers with digital menus, fry/burger cooks with machines. You could run an entire store off of 3-5 people in rush hours. However if the poor workers whom they replaced with machines were to organize, with the current economy it could have a serious backlash into their profits. Most well to do and middle class families cook regular dinners and have routines which generally include self prepared meals, while they certainly do use the convenience of fast food, the general thought is they do not use it enough to offset the loss in profits from an organized displaced workforce.

Either way it should be fun to watch.

I like the orwellian description of the company 'building technology to solve consumer problems' like finding a hammer was such a problem before. The real description should be 'building technology to cut down on wage bills and maximize profits'.

Anyway, this robot is little more than those self-scan checkouts that have done very little to replace human employees - half the population can't be arsed doing the scanning themselves and then for those that do, you still need humans for all the errors, items that fail to scan etc.

Some of you are so busy looking down on others, you don't even recognise the threat to yourself. It's like you've already forgotten technology replacing professionals (like accountants) and skilled labour (machinists etc). You think robotics is only a threat to low skilled jobs when you couldn't be further from the truth. AI will soon be able to replace doctors and computer programmers, scientists and legal professionals and trust me, corporations are much more keen to find ways to minimise the wage bills of professionals than they are walmart employees - they've already got that one down below a living wage.

Will you have more sympathy for those on minimum wage when that is your only option too? When robots and competition for dwindling jobs drive down your wages too?

I can't wait to see what happens when the majority of the population is jobless and replaced by robots.

Pyramidal economics.

If you take away the working class, the pyramid shrinks and the middle class becomes the new poor. People like accountants, IT professionals, and nurses would be considered bottom of the pyramid and thus earn poverty level wages.

Unless you are in the top 1%, you should be against job automation. In the long run, automation negatively affects everyone in some kind of way.
