"Demand" should not be higher, that would be a shift of the demand curve.

"Quantity demanded" should be higher at a lower price, ceretis paribus.

Market is trying to reach an equilibrium point, quantity demanded is falling, thus price is dropping. Market is not at an equilibrium point yet. There are other factors at play also, more consumers (China, ect) as well as producers (non OPEC producing), so there are also shifts of both curves occurring. It is a very dynamic situation, especially when you add in speculators who artificially manipulate the market.

There is a lot more going on here than just quantity demanded being lower... a lot more. New wars are fought economically first.

Can't speak for everyone but, once the price reached above $1.30 a gallon, I had to change the way I lived. No more long family rides on the weekend, deer and turkey hunting trips and 2 to3 out of state vacations each year. Yeah I still gas for work and still do but, I stopped spending money like I did. I got use to doing less and see no way I'm going back to where I did. Even if the price goes down below a dollar gallon I'm not. Fuck them all! Go broke, eat shit and die! Some thoughts are that alternative energies are starting to come on line.
Currently more than 90% of crude oil is burned as fuel. In a thousand years they will look back and say how stupid we were to burn this once abundant and wonderful natural molecule that has so many good uses like plastic and other chemicals.

i keep stepping back and looking at fundaments and cant stop feeling that the principles of an economic system built on competition and growth has a finite time span when one gets to the point of the selected winner (tptb), depleted sources, and a stripped consumer base thats loosing sentiment
