Quoting: Vroude Fuck every minute of this. You would be no agnostic in this case. Agnosticism is a position you claim after you have thought deeply about all possibilities. Obviously you did not. There are messianic sects which actively pursue those so called "prophecies", or the interpretations of those. It's not God working miracles which does that, but a secret cabal, mere humans with too much power in their hands actively working towards those "prophecies", and if we let them continue, you can be assured they will a) destroy the Al Aqsa mosque and build their temple on there to place the ark inside b) plagues will arrive (bio weapons) c) Armageddon (WW3) among other things like those chips.. The top puppet masters behind all this might not even be religious at all, but use this as a means to gain full control of everything. |

Or identify myself on the net, at the tax office, to the cops and so on. |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 66735230 "Offered", huh? What do you bet that the boss of the company mentioned here won't see you as a dedicated employee if you refuse the chip. They'll also be seen as a bother - 'those holdouts force us to still need traditional electronic access methods', they'll say. Those who refuse the chip will be less likely to get a raise, get promoted, enjoy a bonus, and so on. A little pressure to get the chip here. What about new hires? Same thing. The chip makes one 'more efficient' so they'll obviously hire the individual willing to be chipped for the company over the individual who doesn't want to be. Significant pressure to get the chip. What happens a decade or so down the line when all companies have adopted these chips? It'll still be "optional". But those who have a problem with their employers embedding electronic devices into their bodies will have trouble getting a job that pays more than minimum wage. VERY significant pressure to get the chip - it becomes a requirement if you want to make a decent living. The longer this goes on, the less optional these 'optional' chips will become. I'm pretty much against government regulation in any form, but I think there should be a law against this kind of thing. It's exploitative and extremely invasive and I think any form of company-mandated chipping should be outlawed. And yes, as outlined above I consider even 'optional' chips as mandated because an employee is forced to get them if he/she wants to get anywhere in the company. |

How long d'ya think before the chip contains your medical records so you can't get health insurance, your credit rating, your history with women so potential girlfriends can check out your performance... the list's endless - it'll create a whole society of outcasts - bit like the film Demolition Man.. |

A subcutaneous implant as a means of strong identification would be highly useful. I have to identify myself everywhere these days. Heck, I need to show ID whenever I buy a phone, have an appointment with a doctor, buy medication, use a library card, deal with an insurance company, visit tax office, start a business, or cross borders. Then I have a shitload of other cards for credit, debit, bonuses, and so on. All-in-one solution under my skin (where it's harder to steal) with strong cryptographic and revokable identification would be great. Emergency GPS location service would be a great feature, too. If I pass out or my vital signals deteriorate, it would send out my location to the emergency services. |

How long d'ya think before the chip contains your medical records so you can't get health insurance, your credit rating What? I already have to hand over all my medical records to get additional health insurance (I automatically have the national health insurance that covers everything regardless of my past health) and I can't get a loan without allowing the bank full access to my accounts and credit records. If I withhold any medical records, the insurance company is free to refuse any and all compensation even if the withheld medical history has nothing to do with the present health problem. Having all that information on a chip would only make the process faster and more secure. |
