How deep of a cut requires stitches?
Yeah so just about an hour ago I was chopping something and cut myself pretty deep on my thumb.

I put a bandaid on A.S.A.P! (wasn't ready to look yet)

Anyways I just took off the bandaid to have a looksie and ummmm... it looks deep, I would say about 5-8mm deep maybe more.

The cut is about 1 long.

What say you?

Stitches?

Ouch.

LMD, I would say really that if you have to ask, you probably do need to see about it. Your thumb has big access to germs. Don't want to get infected.

And, I know what you mean about not looking at it. I once cut my hand while putting a window down and almost passed out from looking at it. Surprised me.

Re: How deep of a cut requires stitches?
What a coincidence.

I cut my thumb on Christmas Eve.
It bled all over the kitchen.
Got two bandaids on it pretty tight.

An hour later I took them off to clean it up again
And it just started gushing. I never could see the cut
Through all the blood.

Enter....crazy glue.

Left the bandaids on overnight and in the morning I
Crazy glued that sucker. It was bad...think I hit bone.

But it healed up really good.

Got any crazy glue?

They do use a form of crazy glue in the ER to close wounds.
However, the stuff you can buy in the store contains a cyanide compound. Do not use this on your body!!!

No, ....(not crazy glue, I used super glue....
The crazy glue is toxic I think. Super glue is safe)

Anyway, no it doesn't hurt at all.
The cut is what hurt...lol...sent a wave all the down my nerves
To my feet....very strange.

I have a doctor friend...she said thumbs are bleeders.

Stitches are used to stop bleeding. If it's not gushing blood then it's not a big deal. Use some butterfly tape or super glue to close it up. It'll heal twice as fast. But make sure that shit is fuckin clean and shit.

That's why I was thinking a bandaid and some TLC will fix her right up!

I hope you healed well.

Try a BUTTERFLY bandage. Made to hold it together.

Oh, and the NEW stitches are super glue -no lie -they glue it together.

A teabag stops bleeding if moistened and held in place.

DUCT tape.

Works.

Re: How deep of a cut requires stitches?
It's not a matter of depth but rather a matter of whether or not you can get the bleeding stopped.

Cover and apply pressure to the site for 5 minutes. If the bleeding stops, great. If it slows, that's good--give it 5 more minutes of pressure. If the wound is bleeding like crazy with no sign of slowing, seek medical attention.

Oh, and after a few days of healing -paint it with NEWSKIN liquid bandage -keeps the bacteria out and hands get in everything.

Stings! Wait until its closed up -then the scab forming will be helped along with this FLEXIBLE paint on bandage.

I forgot to tell you Miss. Some people use Super Glue on their cuts. I think even the medical profession uses it now on cuts. You could try it, but your cut sounds a bit deep. My husband uses the superglue on his fingers when they split. You'd want to make sure the wound is absolutely closed before applying.

Ms. Superduper is right. If you are concerned, get it checked out. As an alternative there are plastic sutures that are similar to a small band aid. They will hold the cut closed while it heals. Some drug stores carry them, I'm not sure which ones.

Take carehf
