What did I see? Shooting star, meteorite or?

OK GLP I need some input. So I was driving late at night on a 25 hour cross country trip. I decided to drive straight through as I just was not tired. So anyway while going through Kansas on this sort of creepy 2 lane that was dark with very few other cars I spotted what looked like a shooting star! It came right down just to my left and then burnt out before impact. It was traveling the same direction as me and was green! The strange part is I later talked to my wife and she said she had just been praying for me to be safe because I nearly met my maker the last time I tried this (which I learned from). So anyone ever seen anything similar or have any ideas?
