He needs to get a license, just like a dog license, a drivers license, a marriage license etc... your rights come from man. End of story.

They guy should have just showed the cop his gun Lic and that would be the end.

why ignite the situation. Yes you can open carry but you also need a Lic to do it.

You don't need a license to open carry a rifle in the state of Texas. The cop was nothing more than a coward who has no respect for the constitution or the laws of Texas. Fuck him and fuck his supposed association with the 3%ers. Nothing but a coward bitch.

No...I think we need to stop and think (just like the cop did) about this situation!

This cop *stopped* and thought about what he was doing, then did a 180...*how many other cops do you think would have displayed that kind of character?

Yeah, yeah, yeah, the cop was headed down the wrong direction...BUT, *he stopped and thought about it* and then changed course!

YES he was bent out of shape and flexed a little too much when he exited his vehicle for the second time with his AR, BUT, he stopped and changed his course of action! How many cops do you think would turn around after they've chosen the wrong course of action? Yes the cop was wrong but I believe it took character for he cop to realize what he was doing and deescalate the situation!

This is definitely one of those times where a guy like this deserves grace! There's no doubt in my mind that this cop properly filed this experience and will be an even greater asset for the 2nd in the future!

This is a good cop! He's a cop that *thinks*!

Did you get the statement from the cop, "MY STREETS"? I didn't know he owned the streets!

He apparently forgot that he is a public SERVANT! The people aren't there for his enjoyment as THEY PAY his salary!

He doesn't represent jack shit other than another power tripper!

I think you have a little too much faith for this particular cop! Maybe your right, but I think the cop knew from the beginning that he was wrong and did an about face because his back up was a black female that out ranked him! That cop knew that if the citizen filed a complaint the corporal who backed him up would probably hang his ass out to dry!

Ok first of all I just have to ask... was this guy wearing a skirt? As a law abiding, gun owner that would make me feel uneasy. Not the point however.

We afford police an amount of power to do their job. It is not to interpret the constitution at every case. They can detain and arrest and then the constitutional battle happens in court. I know he has the right and ability to carry. I conceal carry. But I know that if I get pulled over, my hands go out the window until approached and released. That's not being a sheep. It is preventing an avoidable tragedy.

So why couldn't this dude get a lanyard, put his ID on it and avoid this? He could use that bushmaster as a back scratcher and no one would say a thing. Even the most hardcore lobbyist have to see that some people go out to push the wrong buttons.

I am not a huge cop fan but this guy had a point and was seriously trying to deescalate the situation with conversation. He gave the guy every chance to skip detainment. Sorry if he came off harsh at first (can't believe I am defending a cop) but that could have been a particularly dangerous situation.

I guess I just butted heads with the police so long in my life that I came to the conclusion that you just never win. I assure you this cop has his job and everyone at the station laughed.

West Virginia is an open carry state.
I don't need to ask ANYONE permission to
carry openly, and I certainly don't need
a "license".
My "license" is the Second Amendment.

There are localities that regulate open carry,
like the capital, Charleston, and a few others,
and it pays to respect the wishes of their citizens,
and laws about carrying in government buildings,
and such.

I get your point completely here! However, police have a duty to uphold citizen rights whether they like and or agree with those rights, PERIOD! They are paid to know the law and it is incumbent upon them to make sure they stay informed of any changes to all laws they enforce.

The officer here, could have and should have first observed the situation and if he felt that a contact was warranted then he should have waited for assistance before going John Wayne!

Lastly and most important here is that Americans are becoming fed up with over-reaching Govt in all forms to include the "police state" which is why you are now seeing things like this!

Interesting conversation - I agree that too many go out to push the wrong buttons...and I think those that do so are morons! However, if one is going to be a cop, he's got to be a top level professional, which is to say, professional enough to not let the morons manipulate you by pushing your buttons - if a cop can't handle the heat, they shouldn't be in the kitchen!

I've had a couple of totally unjustified ugly encounters with cops that had zero business being cops - they are a danger to themselves and the citizens they're supposed to serve, but, cops are just people...imperfect people, but a lot of them really are trying to do a good job!

Felons certainly aren't allowed to own guns anywhere or carry them especially. He could've showed his state ID and been on his way.

Im not just saying that to be inflammatory.

I dont need a gun here, why? My friendly local police man has one, and if his talking and de escalation training, and his physical power are unable to subdue a suspect, he will use it wisely. I dont fear my policemans gun, because it is appropriate to the task (not a military combat arm) and I can trust that it is there to serve my safety. How do I know this? My policeman does not wear a mask to hide his face, he lives in my building and loves to chat while catching a smoke in the parking lot. I know hist first name and I know his family. He is a public servant who gets off on helping people and busting bad guys. The only time I would ever need a gun is when the north invades, in such a case the exact same nice policeman will be handing them out of a crate and the line forms to the left as every adult male has military training.

You dont live in this world, I have lived among you and you need to flex and demonstrate ever right you have left to keep it. If every time roidranger army washout rolled up an innocent citizen for revenue or roman sport, the citizens on the scene were packing like the baggage scanner scene in the matrix, respect would be restored overnight, not a shot fired.

Re: Cop pulls rifle, threatens protester for their "Constitutional BullShit"

I guess I meant pick your battles. You will know when it is time to walk down the street with an AR-15.

You mean when they try to bane the internets?

In your country, in its current state of affairs, everybody who can pack heat should be doing so, even in the supermarket.

The constitution states that every AMERICAN has the right to own and bear arms. But he's walking around town wearing a kilt looking like he came straight off the plane from Scotland.

If he shows his state ID it shows:

A. He's an American citizen

and B. It allows the police to run his name and check for warrants or if he's a felon and then he can be on his merry way.

I really should move to Texas one of these days lol. If someone were to do in Michigan what this guy did then he'd be arrested for brandishing a firearm. Brandish meaning to display in public in a threatening manner.

I guess Texas doesn't have that law.

What ever he wears is not a crime.
and even Michigan doesn't have that law.
Lawful and legal to different things. The politicians can write what ever they like but, can not take away your rights.
Statues, Acts and Codes are not law..
