Re: god damn student loans
Why does the government use "middle men" to service the student loans? How much of the money do the "middle men" take. These people can be vicious, like loan sharks.

Why wouldn't they just use the existing IRS network to collect the loans and eliminate the middle men altogether?

Obama plans to make it easier to pay your student loans

After reading this thought to myself, "is this the next big scandal coming down the pike?"

Well of course: once the goobermint controls student loans: they decide we need more mathematicians to come up with overly complicated economics numbers: good luck getting loans to follow your dreams of engineering; chemistry or gender studies.Keep turning "stuff" over to the feds(they KNOW whats' best for you)...

Re: god damn student loans
Since the government cut out the middle man there is no tax burden for the student loan program. The government is in fact making a profit and stands to make even more profit with Obama's deal.

So what the problem with making a profit? The cost of tuition inflates so it's even more expensive for those people who don't take student loans.

Not only that, with the absence of consumer protections, the government and private agencies push borrowers into defaulting in order to make even more profit.

Such action makes the system predatory and deflates the economy since these people have less money to spend on local business.

The real solution is to return consumer protections to the student loan industry.

Colleges also need to be made accountable for those graduates who aren't successful. For example, make colleges provide jobs adequate enough to make a decent living and allow graduates to pay back their student loans.
