In the late 1980's I personally spoke with LBJ's chopper pilot. He told me the press had hounded him for an interview but he never gave one.

He told me the things he heard LBJ say about the Kennedy's was "absolutely unbelievable". He hated all the Kennedy's.
I told him that I thought LBJ was behind the assassination of JfK, he got a strange look on his face and these were his exact words: "I would like to stay alive so we won't talk about that".

My take on it is that LBJ & GHWB conspired to eliminate JFK. LBJ knew he would never be President if Kennedy had a second term, and GHWB was a CIA contractor and had his ship the "Barbara" near Cuba in support of the bay of pigs invasion. He was pissed that JFK cancelled it because he was planning on ending up owning a huge chunk of Cuban Real estate. Both Texans, both powerful, both hated JFK.

LBJ , created medicare, and medicade he was able to ward of ressions while he was president he was a champion for civil rights which allowed minorities an equal oppertunity for jobs and college , his down fall was obviuosly veitnam which he was unable to end. it and it alone was why he wouldnt seek re-election, but as far as helping the less fortunate americans , no one since FDR, had even come close to his accomplishments.LBJ never got the credit he deserved.
