A question for GLP "Old-timers"
I'm relatively new to GLP - I first discovered the site sometime in April of this year but have only been a registered member since July. I would be very interested to know how those of you who have been here a long time feel about us new-comers ..... do you think that we are contributing to the benefit of the forum as a whole or do you feel that as more and more people join-in, GLP is losing its "original flavour". Naturally, only people who have been here for a long time will be able to compare the dynamics of the site as it operates now and make an informed judgment. My personal experience so far has me believing that, for the most part, we are indeed "welcome" and for that I would like to thank you all.

So .... is GLP as good today as it was "in the beginning", is it better or is it worse?

It would be great to have some input from the Mods and of course Trinity and Traveler.

Life is changing and so does GLP.
I have no problems with that.
And I even have the impression many good (sensible!) people came in here recently.

Is that a compliment Dil? If it is, thank-you, that's very kind of you.

-------------

Well, when I first got here it was pretty crazy! Theres no flavour to it these days, nothing new, its all just repeated material.....but its all good, we can help educate the newcomers with conspiracies of the planet! and bring them up to date!

What we need is another drama like Aussie Bloke! Throw a bit of Zakk in there, and I swear its not a cult! lol but in all the jumble thats in here theres some crackin nuggets! You've just gotta wean thru the crap to get to the juicy bits! And when TPTB have sucked your soul into the GLP cosmos you'll be hooked for life! and when you've been rehabilitated, they'll let you back out! LOL

Oh and dont forget about Bluestar! He's the messiah! but dont tell him I told you! LOL

I've been here a few years, and I think that when I first came here there was a lot more investigative posts on the go. People digging deep and trying to piece things together. GLP is still a valuable resource for me, but the noise level has increased significantly, many more BS posts, and the shillometer is through the roof!

I'm a bit confused AC - are you fond of Aussie Bloke and Zac and do you think I should try and set up an "Aussie cult" with them?! How many Aussie's are here anyway and are we liked by our Yankee brothers?!

Thanks for that AC. In the short time that I've been here I have come across some exceptional "investigative" posts - in fact, it is this type of information that interests me the most. Of course, there is always a time and a place for having a bit of fun and in this regard some threads have been very amusing and entertaining (a good example of this was/is Atma's "Post your pic" thread which I think is still on today's page and growing by the minute). Unfortunately, amongst all the good there is a fair amount of silly stuff being put up for discussion but I guess that's "freedom of speech" at its best so I'll not be criticising it, that's for sure!

I've been here for a long time and several aspects have gotten better and some worse. GLP is still one of the best places to get news and the spam rate has gone down tremendously but the constent bans and LOP made me uregister and go AC.

Sorry, but what do you mean by LOP and why would that make you post as an AC. I don't know whether it's my imagination but there seem to be more people posting as ACs these days and I've been asking myself why the reluctance to register. Perhaps you could fill me in.

ONE OF THE OLDEST

GLP IS A GREAT SOCIAL INTERACTION AND BAROMETER OF HUMAN SENSE AND SENSIBILITY.

SPAM AND TROLLS COME AND GO

SO DOOM TROLLS/SPAM RIDDLE THE PLACE TODAY BUT THAT IN ITSELF SPEAKS VOLUMES, DEATH AND DESTRUCTION IS ON THE WAY OUT.

A MAJOR BREAKTHROUGH WOULD BE TO SAFELY ARCHIVE ALL THE REALLY POSITIVE POSTS GOING BACK TO THE BEGINING.

HOW MANY TIMES I HAVE REPEATED MYSELF OR HAD THE SAME TRASH THROWN AT ME.

A MIRROR ON LIFE INDEED BUT WITH BUILT IN POSITIVE FEEDBACK.

Just like the human emotion it reflects GLP has its ups and downs, but has remained, for the most part unchanged. At least that's my opinion. I've been visiting here almost everyday for over 2 years...... with a few breaks for vacation and sanity checks..... Ha Ha.

I've lurked here as an anonymous coward for almost 3 years. The first week here with the doom and gloom woo woos scared me half to death, now it's a form of spectator sport. I've found over time it's pretty much the same, just the players change.

I know what you mean re the sanity checks Scimitar - I was banned for about 10 days not so long ago and whilst at first I was extremely annoyed, with each passing day I felt more and more relaxed and able to get on with other, dare I say, "more important" things! I'm now back to needing my daily GLP "fix", but I'm not complaining .... I really do find it very informative. Thanks for the post.

Re: A question for GLP "Old-timers"
The dynamics have changed. The chat brats are gone, they were very funny, entertaining, but also unpleasant to the point of distaste.
The doom has accelerated, much less news and what is posted drops off the front page pdq in favor of stupid irrelevance.
The nasty shills remain the same, I'm certain they're the same ones over and over just different names is all.

GLP is not losing it's originality and every new member brings something that ADDS to the flavour.

Yeah, I remember Susan. She left suddenly and was all mad about something or at someone. There was a big ruckus during that time. People were saying things and ticking each other off. What was that about anyhow?

Thanks for your input artdeco - I participated last night (your time) in a discussion (of sorts!) on a thread about the guy who's girlfriend's religion was too strict but she was his soul mate and he didn't know what to do .... remember? Anyway, your posts there were terrific ..... I think I even sent you a bunch of cyber-flowers to express my support!! So thanks again!

Re: A question for GLP "Old-timers"
Welcome to GLP rose

I have been with the forum for almost a year now. Came in blind sided not knowing what to expect. I lurked also then decided to just drop in and friendships blossomed from there. There are some great people here.

On the down side, I often would leave here depressed. Not a good thing especially when this puter is your getaway. The gloom and doomsayers. Negative posts...you know what I mean. I do my best to overlook them. I even left for awhile.

I have days when I will distract the obvious by posting threads out of the ordinary like the (unimportant ones?) Just to chase the blues...and yes some are a matter of interest to me, and found out through replys to others too.

My hug thread is an expression of me and what I love to contribute to the world. It may not mean much to some....but my heart goes out to the world and I figured this is the best place to express it.

I hope you enjoy the forum and are able to sit and let your hair down.

Oh and yes...this is for you. hugs
Where there is a will, there is a way...
