And how do you know it was written for him? He told you straight up? It takes months and months to research and write a thesis, including giving tutorials, regular meetings with your superiors to discuss various aspects of your dissertation etc. I don't see how your cousin got someone to do all this work.

This was a very very bad thing YOU did; it was snarky, creepy underhanded and you would have been a typical USTASE snitch in East Germany, or KGB snitch in Soviet Russian and you will probably try to be an 'undercover' snitch in one of the many three initial organizations in the USA.

If I knew you, I would immediately never speak to you again and probably flee every time I saw you. Snitches get off on destroying lives; and after awhile when you can't find anything to snitch on people about, you will start making it up to increase your sense of power.

No where do you say that you tried to talk him out of it or tried to encourage him to do the right thing. Hell, you could have at least threatened to narc as leverage for him to do the right thing before you ratted him out. Having recently completed a PhD after years of writing, multiple drafts and dozens of meetings with my advisor, I dont even see how this is possible. You are scrutinized throughout the entire process. You dont just hand in a finished product and get a PhD. It is a complicated process full of revisions, scholarly journal submissions, conference presentations and oversight. Unless your cousin's ghost writer were a fly on the wall of the entire process I cannot see this happening. And even if someone were willing to go to all this effort, the cost of hiring another academic to risk his career and years of his life writing someone else's dissertation would be astronomical.
