Quitting a whole mess of stuff in one go - any tips?
I have a few days free time for the initial hit and intended to quit cigarettes, Xanax (not abusing but I do take 2-4mg / day) and alcohol (I do abuse this one).

Any tips on what to expect or some stuff to do to help get through the, uh.. 'Initial impact'?

Alkalize a few gallons of filtered water (using organic lemons and pink Himalayan salt) and sip this continuously until cravings are suppressed.

Sleep a lot, too.

Anything a little more simple as far as some sort of detox drink? I live in a one store town and start this today;

May not be able to get my hands on Himalayan salt lol

Exercise.

After a week or 2 you will crave the exercise.

Do it.

You will feel sooooooooo much better.

Good luck O.P

If you drink coffee, cut your intake by half. When you quit smoking you become more sensitive to caffeine. L-Theanine on an empty stomach helps with irritability and nervousness.

A little fruit juice every 2 hours helps keep your blood sugar in check. Quitting smoking throws it out of whack.

Gabapentin helps if you get the restless leg/muscle spasm thing going on from the Xanax withdrawals.

If you were drinking enough to go through the dt's and were using high dose of Xanax. I would definitely detox in the hospital.

I have had alcoholic friends die from trying to quit drinking at home.

Jogging it is; as terrified as I was someone would say exercise is a good way to hit this lol. Fuck it, might as well get back in fighting shape while we're at it, eh? :P

I simply quit. I took up gardening, stayed off the computer (chatting, reading news), and avoided people almost entirely for nearly a month.

It's been five years now and I still crave a cigarette occasionally; most often after supper I've noticed.
I wish I had more time so I could do even less.

Yea, I plan on isolating for at least the first 3 days or so. I've quit smoking before and that in itself wasn't THAT hard (replaced it with trail running). Slightly nervous about taking out my current combo in one go though.

Understand what you're fighting.

For every thing you have an addiction to or a habit of, imagine there's a mouth in your brain that shrinks and grows in relation to how much you use that substance.

So, let's say you smoke. The first time you smoke, that mouth is tiny and almost glued shut. But it opens a little and says "More, please"

Fast forward 2 years and that mouth is wide open and the size of your fist.

"FEED ME!" it's shouting louder than your own thoughts.

Now...

You need to get that mouth closed, you need to starve it until it passes out.

Understand that it will never die, and it may shrink a bit back down to normal, but it's blown it's elasticity for the most part and if you feed it again, it will wake up and open it's giant mouth just as loud as the last time you fed it.

That is what you're fighting, and how you must approach it.

Re: Quitting a whole mess of stuff in one go - any tips?
I just quit smoking for about three weeks now. I caved a few times and had one every other day for a bit, but I stayed on top of it. I noticed caffeine makes me want to smoke more, as to suppress the anxiety and nervousness. I can now go the whole day with no problems, unless I overdo the caffeine.

I meditated, ate the house out of food, exercised, took a lot of hot showers, eventually you'll kick that wolf out of the cockpit. You just have to have a lot of inner strength and stay with it.

Re: Quitting a whole mess of stuff in one go - any tips?
Download some isochronic tones from the internet. Look for ones that deal specifically with addiction, (they make them for just about anything you need, like anxiety, relaxation, mood, creativity, etc.).

Play them while you sit still for 20 - 30 minutes as many times a day as you have time for.

I used this for quitting cigarettes a few years back and couldn't believe how effective it was at stopping the craving in its tracks. I had smoked for more than 30 years.

You can also get binaural beats. They work just like the isochronic tones, but you need to wear headphones with them because the tones are meant to go into the right ear/left ear.

The one I got I purchased from the Unexplainable Store. They have a lot of good recordings. But if you have a tablet, you can download free apps for the tones. Youtube has a lot too.

Good luck!

Re: Quitting a whole mess of stuff in one go - any tips?
just say no......

be true to yourself first.....

you have been lying to you... all along... now come truth...

you can do it.... it all starts with the first no..

go to a party...get offered drinks... drugs...cigs.... say no...no...no... each time you say no you build strength...character... devotion to you and truth....

the rest will be jealous of your will power and try to corrupt you...bring you to their level.....just say no.

i've done it with cigs in college.... alcohol as a teen...
psychelelics as a young adult...

so can you...

good luck!

I have to add - when you feel cravings come on, start playing them, (the tones), immediately. Keep them on until the craving passes. That is how I used them and it worked wonders.

You can't quit Xanax cold turkey. You need to taper off slowly over a month or so. Quitting cold turkey can do severe damage to your brain and nervous system.

IMPORTANT: Take L-Theanine (Suntheanine brand) to ease the negative effects of withdrawal that will come from weeding off of Xanax and alcohol. Take 100mg capsules of L-Theanine twice or three times a day.

Just man the fuck up and do it.

I gave up heroin, methadone, pot and alcohol all at once cold turkey just with will power alone.

Take a teaspoon of concrete and harden the fuck up.

Include SAUNA or steam bath at your local gym.
(not hot tub -it doesn't make you sweat)

And drink fresh juice -look up youtubes of water fast and juice fast.

For encouragement:

My friend who smoked two packs a day for 40 years got a helicopter ride last fall with a bout of pneumonia that looked like a G...D HEART ATTACK!

The helicopter ride bill was $19,000

He was in the hospital for five days -and the next month for a week for surgery on his lungs.
